A standard carton sealer puts one strip of tape across the top seam and one across the bottom. For a light box going across town, that is enough. For a 20 to 30 kg export carton that will sit in a container for weeks, it often is not.
What goes wrong in transit
- Humidity at sea softens the board and the tape edges start to lift
- Stacked cartons press down on the side seams and the flaps pop open
- Forklift and crane handling put stress on the corners, not just the centre seam
What an H-seal does
An edge sealer runs tape along the side edges of the top and bottom faces as well as the centre seam. Seen from above, the tape forms an "H". The flaps are held at the centre and along both edges, so the box stays square under load.
Where it makes sense
- Exporters shipping by sea or long-haul road
- Heavy goods such as auto parts, hardware, tiles and machinery spares
- Customers or buyers who reject cartons with lifted flaps
Pneumatic vs manual
A pneumatic edge sealer folds and presses the tape with air cylinders, which gives a firm, even seal at line speed. A manual H-taping job with a hand dispenser works for low volumes, but it is slow and the result depends on the operator.
We manufacture pneumatic edge sealers alongside semi automatic and random carton sealers in Faridabad. Specifications and rates are here: PackForge carton sealing machines
