Fly.io Pricing 2026: What Changed on 1 October and What It Costs in Europe

On 1 October 2026 Fly.io raised the price of Machine RAM from $5 to $6 per GB per month. In practice every Machine now costs $1 more per month for each GB of RAM it has. The smallest always-on Machine (shared-cpu-1x, 256 MB) went from $1.94 to $2.19 in Ashburn (iad) and from $2.02 to $2.28 in Amsterdam. A 1 GB Machine went from $5.70 to $6.70 in iad. Volumes, egress, snapshots and IPv4 prices did not change. The regional price differences in Europe are not new: they date from July 2024.

Conflict of interest, stated up front: I run Hostim.dev, a flat-priced container host in Germany. A price rise at Fly is good news for me. So every Fly number below links to Fly's own page or to an archived copy of it, and the comparison at the end says where Fly is the better choice.

What changed in Fly.io pricing on 1 October 2026?

Fly announced the change on its 2026 Pricing Update page, subtitled "Effective October 1, 2026". The page was posted on Hacker News on 21 September 2026. The two key sentences are:

  • every Machine "takes more RAM at $6.00 per GB per month, up to 128GB"
  • "Machine CPU pricing is unchanged."

I compared the current pricing page with the archived copy from 10 September 2026. This is what moved:

Item Before 1 Oct 2026 After 1 Oct 2026
Additional RAM $5.00 / GB / month $6.00 / GB / month
shared-cpu-1x 256 MB, iad $1.94 $2.19
shared-cpu-1x 256 MB, ams $2.02 $2.28
shared-cpu-1x 1 GB, iad $5.70 $6.70
shared-cpu-2x 2 GB, iad $11.39 $13.39
Volumes $0.15 / GB / month unchanged
Snapshots $0.08 / GB / month, first 10 GB free unchanged
Egress, North America and Europe $0.02 / GB unchanged
Dedicated IPv4 $2.00 / month unchanged

Why did the 256 MB Machine go up if CPU is "unchanged"?

This confused me at first. A 256 MB shared-cpu-1x has no "additional" RAM, so a RAM price change should not touch it. But it went up by $0.25 in iad.

The numbers add up if you read the change as "all RAM is now $6 per GB, including the 256 MB that comes with each shared vCPU". 0.25 GB × $1 = $0.25. The same rule explains every row above: the 1 GB Machine went up $1.00 and the 2 GB Machine went up $2.00. Fly's pricing page computes prices with a per-second formula, and the shared CPU rate in it moved from 0.00000075 to 0.0000008465 dollars per second. That difference is exactly $0.25 a month: the $1 per GB increase applied to the bundled 256 MB (0.25 GB × $1).

So the short version is accurate: each Machine costs $1 more per GB of RAM per month, counting the base RAM. The phrase "CPU pricing is unchanged" is true only if you count the bundled 256 MB as RAM, not as CPU.

How much is a Fly.io Machine in 2026?

These are 30-day prices for a Machine that runs all month. I computed them with the formula and region multipliers on Fly's pricing page, checked on 14 October 2026. Fly's page shows the same values when you pick a region.

Preset iad (US) ams / arn cdg / lhr fra
shared-cpu-1x 256 MB $2.19 $2.28 $2.49 $2.53
shared-cpu-1x 512 MB $3.69 $3.84 $4.19 $4.26
shared-cpu-1x 1 GB $6.70 $6.95 $7.60 $7.73
shared-cpu-1x 2 GB $12.70 $13.19 $14.41 $14.65
shared-cpu-2x 2 GB $13.39 $13.91 $15.20 $15.45
performance-1x 2 GB $33.00 $34.27 $37.44 $38.08
performance-2x 4 GB $66.00 $68.54 $74.89 $76.16

Fly bills per second. A Machine that is stopped costs $0.15 per GB of root filesystem per month, not the full price. If your app can scale to zero, your bill can be much lower than this table.

Fly's own examples on the same page: the "smallest always-on app" (256 MB in iad plus 1 GB egress) is $2.21 a month. A "small web app with Managed Postgres" (512 MB Machine, 10 GB volume, Managed Postgres Basic, 1 GB database storage, 10 GB egress) is $43.67 a month. Most of that is the database.

What does Managed Postgres cost on Fly.io?

From the pricing update page:

Plan Machine Price / month
Basic shared-2x, 1 GB $38
Starter shared-2x, 2 GB $72
Launch performance-2x, 8 GB $282
Scale performance-4x, 32 GB $962
Performance performance-8x, 64 GB $1,922

Storage is $0.28 per GB on top. If you run Postgres yourself on a Fly Machine instead, Fly's pricing page estimates about $2 a month for a single-node dev setup and $82–$164 a month for a three-node production cluster.

What does Fly.io cost in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, London and Stockholm?

Fly has five regions in Europe: Amsterdam (ams), Stockholm (arn), Paris (cdg), Frankfurt (fra) and London (lhr). There is no region in Madrid, Warsaw or Bucharest.

Each region has a multiplier on the US price. Amsterdam and Stockholm are about 3.8% more than iad, Paris and London about 13.5% more, Frankfurt about 15.4% more. Frankfurt is the most expensive Fly region in Europe.

Three example setups, before and after the change (USD per month):

(a) One small always-on app, shared-cpu-1x 256 MB

Region Before After
ams $2.02 $2.28
lhr $2.21 $2.49
fra $2.24 $2.53

(b) One app, 1 GB, plus a 10 GB volume and Managed Postgres Basic with 1 GB storage

Region Before After
ams $45.70 $46.73
lhr $46.24 $47.38
fra $46.35 $47.51

(c) Two apps, shared-cpu-2x 2 GB each, plus 100 GB egress

Region Before After
ams $25.66 $29.82
lhr $27.86 $32.39
fra $28.30 $32.91

The percentage rise depends on how much RAM you use. Setup (b) rose only 2–3%, because the $38 database price did not change. Setup (c) rose about 16%, because it is mostly RAM. RAM-heavy apps (Node.js, Java, Rails with Sidekiq) feel this change the most.

I could not find whether Fly adds EU VAT to its USD prices at checkout. Neither pricing page says.

Are Fly.io's regional prices new?

No. Region-specific Machine pricing started on 1 July 2024. The multipliers in the January 2026 archive are identical to the ones on the current page. The October 2026 change only moved the RAM rate.

Did Render change its prices too?

Yes, on the same day, but downward and only for Key Value (Redis-compatible) instances. Render's changelog from 1 October 2026 cut the price of every Key Value plan with 1 GB of RAM or more, and added two new plans.

Plan Before After
1 GB $32 $20
3 GB (new) $60
5 GB $135 $100
10 GB $250 $200
20 GB $550 $350
40 GB $1,100 $600
50 GB (new) $750

When is Fly.io still the right choice?

Fly is good at things a flat-priced host does not do:

  • Many regions. You can run the same app close to users on several continents. If your users are in São Paulo, Tokyo and Frankfurt, Fly is built for that.
  • Scale to zero. Stopped Machines cost almost nothing. For apps that sit idle most of the day, per-second billing beats any monthly plan.
  • Tiny always-on workers. At $2.19–$2.53 a month, a 256 MB Machine is still very cheap for a bot or a small queue worker.

When is a flat EU host cheaper?

When the app runs all month, uses 1 GB of RAM or more, and its users are in Europe. The $1-per-GB change hits exactly that case, and the managed database is often the biggest line on the bill.

For comparison, the same setups on Hostim (EUR, before VAT, egress included):

Setup Fly.io, fra, after Hostim
(a) small always-on app $2.53 €2.50 (1 GB RAM, the smallest plan)
(b) 1 GB app + volume + Postgres $47.51 €8.50 with shared Postgres (1 GB storage), €32.50 with a dedicated Postgres instance
(c) two 2 GB apps + 100 GB egress $32.91 €9.00

This is not a like-for-like comparison, and I want to be clear about where it differs. Hostim runs in one region (Germany). Its shared Postgres is a database on a shared server, not a dedicated machine like Fly's Managed Postgres Basic; the dedicated plan starts at €25. Hostim has no scale-to-zero. Our prices are on the pricing page.

If you want more options, we keep a list of alternatives to Fly.io and a comparison of PaaS platforms with flat, predictable pricing. I wrote about why per-second bills grow over time in usage-based pricing creep.
