How I Improved the User Experience for a Healthcare Website

A healthcare provider company in South Africa wanted an easier and more focused website for patients. Their services support individuals and families, and they want to make the public's health better with their healthcare programs and wellness and health services.

I worked together with the company to update their website and add accessibility for their patients through better digital experiences. The aim was to reduce confusion regarding healthcare, gain trust, and give patients easier access to their services.

Business Challenges

When reviewing the website, I identified several challenges related to patient navigation and interaction. I found that patients/customers needed more guidance, simpler ways to discover services, and a smoother experience throughout their healthcare journey.

Limited Patient Guidance

I noticed that patients often do not know where to navigate on the site to check what services and options are available to them. Without helpful instructions, it is hard to know what programs are even available or what the next step would be.

Appointment Journey Gaps

I identified that the system was full of gaps when patients tried to take the next step after service exploration and a call to schedule a consultation. This caused low interest and effort in the system and created lost opportunities to connect services.

Healthcare Trust Barriers

I found that there were not enough elements, such as credibility of the organization, healthcare expertise, and patient support information, that help build trust. This resulted in less confidence from the visitors who were assessing the healthcare providers and the services that are available.

Mobile Accessibility Issues

I observed that mobile users trying to access healthcare information often had issues with navigation and usability. Specific layouts and ways the information was structured made it difficult to read and inefficient to browse available services on smaller screens.

Poor Content Accessibility

Even though there was a lot of information regarding healthcare, it was not put into an easy-to-read format. The information was poorly organized, lengthy, and very difficult for patients to read quickly.

Solutions

My idea was to enhance the experience, making it more accessible, credible, and engaging. This meant paying special attention to navigation, structuring the information properly, and ensuring mobile responsiveness to develop a platform for healthcare services that would be useful for patients.

Guided Patient Experience

I integrated Navigational paths and clear content journeys to enable users to locate services easily. Service discovery was enhanced, as well as creating a better environment for patients.

Streamlined Appointment Flow

I fine-tuned the process of inquiry and booking to reduce any clash between service discovery and the patient’s choice. This made the patient more involved, thus causing a 20 percent increase in inquiries.

Enhanced Trust Building

I made healthcare credentials, service expertise, and patient-focused details more visible on the website. This enhanced credibility and gave visitors more confidence as they looked into healthcare options.

Mobile Experience Optimization

I made adjustments to the responsive design, navigation system, and presentation of information on the site in order to make it easier to use on mobile phones.

Accessible Content Structure

I reorganized the data about healthcare to ensure easy navigation and hierarchy of information. It made sure that the user could easily access the information and understand the healthcare program and services offered.

The results after completing the Website optimization

Through working on the project, I was able to optimize website by making it user-friendly and easier to navigate. This made things easier for users to locate what they were searching for without any difficulties.
