Google Cloud + Open Source announcement

Yesterday, Google Cloud publicly renewed their commitment to open source. They've been long-time contributors to Go, TensorFlow, Kubernetes, and many others, but they're announcing new strategic partnerships with a bunch of leading open-source projects and companies:

  • Confluent
  • DataStax
  • Elastic
  • InfluxData
  • MongoDB
  • Neo4j
  • Redis Labs

...we’ll be offering managed services operated by these partners that are tightly integrated into Google Cloud Platform (GCP), providing a seamless user experience across management, billing and support. This makes it easier for our enterprise customers to build on open-source technologies...

It seems to make sense for all parties, and could be seen as a direct response to AWS, who has gained notoriety recently for their "abuse" of open source.

Any reactions to this announcement?

Let's see how much of that will be discontinued in the next years.

Doesn't look good.

That's the way to go... take that, AWS!

People who are always saying "discontinued in x years"... Google Cloud is not like Google Consumer. Kubernetes, Tensorflow, and Golang are already proven Google commitments to open source, yet developers continue to say "discontinued in x years". What gives?
