Our Experience at the Hacktober Fest

Hacktoberfest: Contribution Chronicles

Spent the whole day at Hacktoberfest Hack Day Coimbatore, and I'm still buzzing.

Our team, Training with Vibes, built something called Argue With My Data. The idea came from a simple frustration: you ask an AI tool why your sales dropped, and it gives you one confident answer that sounds right but might be completely off.

So we built an analyst that argues with itself first. It comes up with several possible explanations, tests each one against the actual numbers, and tells you which ones hold up and which don't. In our demo, the "obvious" reason, a big customer who stopped ordering, turned out to explain only 8% of the drop. The real cause was something nobody would have guessed at first glance.

Honestly, the day taught us as much as the project did. One version of our code passed every test on one laptop and crashed on another. An AI call froze in the middle of testing and we had to figure out why. Two of us ended up building separate versions in parallel, and merging them was its own adventure. Somewhere in all that, we learnt to test on a clean machine, to never fully trust a single answer (even our own), and to agree on one plan early.

Thank you to INIT Club, iDEA Club and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for hosting us, to MLH for organising, and to SkySync for sponsoring. Days like this are where you actually learn to build.

And to Krishav, Rahul and Mohal: thanks for the chaos, the debugging, and for pulling it all together before the deadline.
