College fest season clusters invitations into a few packed weeks a year, and saying yes to all of them without a system turns every talk into a rushed, half-prepared version of the one before it.

What makes it sustainable

  • A reusable core: two or three talks you know cold, adapted per audience rather than rebuilt from scratch each time.
  • A hard cap on same-week commitments, communicated to organisers upfront rather than discovered the week before.
  • Batching prep: update slides and demos once per season, not once per event.

The trade-off to accept

Turning down an interesting but poorly-timed invitation protects the quality of every talk you do say yes to. A rushed, tired session is worse for the audience and for your reputation than a polite decline.
