Css selectors

Hi all,
CSS selectors are used to choose the HTML elements you want to style on a webpage. They help developers apply colors, fonts, spacing, and other designs to specific parts of a website. Without selectors, CSS would not know which element to style. Learning selectors is one of the first and most important steps in web design.

--A CSS SELECTOR:
A CSS selector is a pattern used to target HTML elements. After selecting an element, you can apply styles to it. For example, you can change the text color, background color, size, or layout.

p {
color: blue;
}
This selector chooses all

paragraph elements and changes their text color to blue.

--TYPES OF CSS SELECTORS:

  1. Element Selector: This selector targets all elements of the same type.

h1 {
color: red;
}

All heading tags

will become red.

2.Class Selector:
A class selector is used when you want to style specific elements.

.box {
background-color: yellow;
}
The dot (.) represents a class.

  1. ID Selector: An ID selector styles one unique element.

header {

font-size: 30px;
}
The hash (#) symbol is used for IDs.

  1. Universal Selector: The universal selector selects every element on the page.
  • { margin: 0; } It is often used to remove default spacing.

IMPORTANCE OF CSS SELECTORS:
CSS selectors make webpages look organized and attractive. They allow developers to style only the elements they need instead of changing every part manually. Selectors also save time and make code easier to manage.

Therefore, CSS selectors are simple tools that help connect CSS styles with HTML elements. By learning element, class, ID, and universal selectors, beginners can start building beautiful and well-designed websites. Understanding selectors is the foundation of learning CSS and web development.
