Your research. Your ideas. Your AI.
Hi DEV! I’m the creator of Prism AI, an early-stage research and writing workspace for Windows.
I’m building it around a simple goal: make it easier to move from questions and source material to organized notes and finished writing.
What is Prism AI?
Prism includes two Windows applications:
- Prism Chat focuses on research, conversations, sources, and Markdown documents.
- Prism Studio focuses on AI-assisted LaTeX writing and document workflows.
The idea is to connect research and writing rather than treat them as completely separate tasks.
What can you do with it?
In Prism Chat, you can organize research projects, work with sources, keep conversations, and create Markdown notes and drafts.
In Prism Studio, you can write LaTeX documents, review AI-proposed revisions before applying them, work with BibTeX references, and compile PDFs with a configured TeX engine.
Local or cloud AI
Prism can work with a configured local model through Ollama or a supported cloud provider.
Local-first does not mean everything works offline. Cloud AI requests send the included content to your chosen provider, and online research features require internet access.
Live AI features need a configured model or provider. You will need to complete that setup after installing Prism.
It’s still early
I want to be clear about the current stage:
- Windows is the currently supported platform.
- Setup and workflows still need testing and improvement.
- AI answers and citations can be wrong.
- Finding a matching quote does not prove that a claim is true.
- The browser preview uses fixed, scripted examples. It does not connect to live AI.
I’m sharing the project to get useful feedback, not to claim that research or writing is solved.

The repository includes setup instructions, documentation, and contribution guidance. If you want to install the applications, choose the Windows installer from the release assets, not the source-code ZIP.
Help shape what comes next
My main question is:
What would stop you from trying Prism on a real research or writing task?
Installation feedback, confusing workflows, reproducible bugs, and documentation improvements are especially useful.
You can reply here or open a GitHub issue. Please don’t include API keys, private documents, or personal information.
Thanks for taking a look. I’m looking forward to learning what works for other people and what needs to change.

Thanks for checking out Prism AI! I’m the creator, and I’d love to hear what you’d want to use it for.
What’s one frustrating part of your research or writing workflow that you wish a tool handled better?
