If your household income is RM24,000 per year or below, you likely have free takaful insurance through MySalam — and most people have never checked.
MySalam (Skim Perlindungan Masyarakat) is a government-funded takaful scheme that provides:
- RM8,000 one-time payout if you are diagnosed with any of 50 critical illnesses
- RM50/day (max 14 days/year) if you are admitted to a government hospital
No registration required. No premiums. If you receive BSH or BPR government assistance, you are already enrolled.
Who Is Eligible?

| Citizenship | Malaysian citizen |
| Age | 18 to 65 years old |
| Household income | RM24,000/year or below (B40) |

Some M40 individuals (household income up to RM100,000/year) may also qualify if their taxable income qualifies. Check at mysalam.com.my using your IC number.

- Go to mysalam.com.my

The 50 Critical Illnesses
MySalam was expanded from 45 to 50 covered conditions in April 2025. The most common claims are:
- Cancer — 43.89% of claims (all major types)
- Kidney failure — 26.76% (end-stage, requiring dialysis)
- Heart conditions — 21.82% (heart attack, coronary artery disease)
- Others — 7.53% (stroke, organ failure, major surgery)
Conditions added in 2025 include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, thalassemia major, rheumatoid arthritis, and COVID-19 critical illness.
Important: Pre-existing conditions are NOT excluded. If you were already diagnosed before enrollment, you can still claim.
How to Claim — Hospitalisation Allowance (RM50/day)
If you are admitted to a government hospital:
- Collect your discharge note at the hospital (admission + discharge dates required)
- Log in to mysalam.com.my with your IC and password
- Go to Claims → Claims Submission → Hospitalisation Claims
- Enter hospital details and upload your discharge note + IC copy
- Submit — payment arrives within 7 days to your registered bank account
Some government hospitals also have MySalam kiosks where you can submit the claim directly at discharge.
How to Claim — Critical Illness (RM8,000)
- Get a confirmed diagnosis from a government hospital
- Download the Critical Illness Doctor's Statement form from mysalam.com.my
- Have your treating doctor complete and sign the form
- Log in to mysalam.com.my → Claims → Critical Illness Claim
- Upload the signed form and your IC copy
- Submit — payment arrives within 7 days if approved
Pro Tips
Register a bank account linked to BSH/BPR. Payouts go to the account on file. If it's dormant or closed, update it before you need to claim.
You can claim both in the same year. Hospitalisation allowance AND critical illness payout are separate — if you are hospitalised and then diagnosed with a covered illness, claim both.
Claim promptly. Submit your claim as soon as possible after diagnosis or discharge. Keep all medical documents safely.
Tell your parents. Many older Malaysians who qualify have never checked their status or made any claims. A 5-minute check at mysalam.com.my could reveal coverage they did not know they had.
MySalam vs PeKa B40
Both target the B40 group but serve different purposes:
| MySalam | PeKa B40 | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Reactive — pays out after illness | Preventive — free health screenings |
| Age | 18–65 years | 40 years and above |
| Key benefit | RM8,000 critical illness payout | Free blood tests + RM20,000 medical device aid |
| Application | Automatic | Automatic |
If you are 40 or above and in the B40 group, use both. PeKa B40 catches conditions early; MySalam covers you financially if a serious diagnosis follows.
