A backup tool shouldn't rely on you remembering to make a backup

The usual way to back up Thunderbird or Firefox:
Open the tool → choose the profile → back up. Every time.

The problem is "every time". The backup you need is the one you forgot to make.

Scheduled backups. Automatic retention — several versions kept, old ones cleaned up by your rules.
