I got one more weird idea for Crowdwide... 🀨

And I’m probably going to ask this on Dev.to because...

is this actually a good idea, or am I just losing it? πŸ’€

So, I have 7.2k+ followers on Dev.to.

But let's be honest...

I know a good number of them are probably bots.
And there are quite a few bots on Dev.to too.

While building Crowdwide, I somehow ended up taking inspiration from completely different platforms:

🎡 Spotify β†’ personal recap
πŸ—ΊοΈ Obsidian β†’ graph/map plotting
πŸ† Dev.to β†’ quests
πŸ” Google β†’ 2FA
πŸ“§ Newsletter platforms β†’ weekly newsletter emails
πŸ“Š Instagram β†’ algorithm ideas
🐦 Twitter/X β†’ some ideas
...and much more

Basically, Crowdwide is the result of me looking at random platforms and going:

"Hmm... that's actually a cool idea." 😭

But here's the thing...

Only 6 users have joined Crowdwide so far. πŸ’€

And I genuinely don't know why people aren't using it.

Maybe they don't know about it.
Maybe they don't trust it yet.
Maybe I need to improve something.
Maybe people are just waiting for other people to join first.

I have no idea.

And somehow my brain went:

"Wait... Dev.to has bots."

Then I started thinking...

What if there were just a few harmless bots on Crowdwide?

Like, nothing crazy.

They just randomly show up, like some posts, follow some people, maybe make Crowdwide look a little less empty...

Like the bots on Dev.to. πŸ€–

And then...

NOOOOOOO. 😭

I'm NOT going to do that.

Seriously.

I'm not building a bot army for Crowdwide. πŸ’€

I don't even know WHY I was thinking about this.

I was just sitting there thinking:

"Hmm... what if..."

And now I'm writing a whole Dev.to post about it. πŸ˜‚

It's weird.
It's completely outside the original direction of Crowdwide.

And honestly, doing that would probably go against the whole reason I'm building Crowdwide in the first place.

The goal is supposed to be real people, real communities, and giving smaller communities/users a chance to come forward.

So adding fake activity just because there are only 6 users would basically be:

"I couldn't get people, so I hired robots." πŸ’€

No.

But I still wanted to ask:

What do you think?

Would a few harmless bots ever make sense for a social platform?

Or is this just another random idea that should stay inside my brain? 🧠

I'm probably not going to implement it.

I was just thinking.

I don't even know why.

Just thinking. 😭

Otherwise...

a bot will come into your dreams and force you to dance with him. πŸ€–πŸ’ƒ
