AI Agent Swarms Need Receipts: How to Verify What 100 Agents Did

AI Agent Swarms Need Receipts: How to Verify What 100 Agents Did

Your swarm just finished. 100 agents. Research done, code written, data processed, tests run.

Your boss asks: "Prove it."

You open the logs. Thousands of lines of "Agent 47 completed task." "Agent 12 finished successfully." "Agent 83 done."

That is not proof. That is a diary entry written by the suspect.

Try it right now: https://zambo.dev/demo/ - get a real verifiable receipt in 10 seconds. No signup. Then come back and keep reading.

The problem nobody talks about with swarms

Multi-agent swarms are incredible. CrewAI, LangChain, AutoGen, OpenAI Agents. You spin up dozens of agents, split the work, and everything moves fast.

But every swarm builder hits the same wall: you cannot verify what any single agent actually did.

Agent 47 claims it updated the database with 10,000 clean records. Did it? Or did it hallucinate the whole thing and write "done" to the log?

Agent 12 says it refactored the auth module. The code looks right. But was it tested? Did the agent actually run the test suite, or did it just say it did?

Agent 83 was supposed to validate the outputs from agents 1 through 82. It says "all validated." You have no way to check.

In a single-agent setup, you can at least watch the screen. In a swarm, 100 agents are working in parallel. You cannot watch them all. And the logs? The agents wrote those logs themselves.

This is why swarms scare compliance teams, scare customers, and scare anyone who needs to trust the output.

Your swarm is doing amazing work. But without proof, it is just expensive hallucination with extra steps.

Receipts: proof for every agent, every action

Here is the fix. Every agent in your swarm leaves a verifiable receipt for every action it takes.

Not a log line. A cryptographic receipt that commits to:

  • Exactly which agent ran
  • Exactly what tool it called
  • The exact inputs it received
  • The exact outputs it produced
  • The exact timestamp
  • A SHA-256 hash chain binding it all together

Agent 47 updates the database? Here is the receipt: inputs, outputs, timestamp, hash. Paste it into https://zambo.dev/verify/ and the hashes recompute independently. Match means the record was not changed since it was saved.

Agent 12 refactors auth? Receipt. Agent 83 validates? Receipt.

Now when your boss asks "prove it," you do not open the logs. You pull up 100 receipts. Each one independently verifiable. Each one impossible to fake after the fact without breaking SHA-256.

This is what separates a toy swarm from a production swarm. Toys have logs. Production systems have receipts.

Continuity: the handoff problem that kills swarms

Here is where swarms actually break. It is not the individual agents. It is the handoffs.

Agent A finishes research and hands it to agent B for code. Agent B hands code to agent C for testing. Agent C hands results to agent D for deployment.

Each handoff is a trust fall. Agent B trusts that agent A's research was real. Agent C trusts that agent B's code actually works. Agent D trusts everything upstream.

One bad handoff poisons the whole chain. And when something breaks at step 87, you have no idea which of the 86 steps before it was the problem.

Receipts fix the handoff. When agent A finishes, it does not just pass output to agent B. It passes output plus the receipt. Agent B gets the work and the proof. Agent C gets two receipts. Agent D gets the full chain.

Now if step 87 breaks, you pull receipt 87. Then receipt 86. Then 85. You walk the chain backward until you find where it went wrong. Every step verifiable. Every handoff carrying proof.

This is AI swarm continuity. Work flows between agents without losing proof. The chain of custody is unbroken from agent 1 to agent 100.

Without this, your swarm is 100 agents playing telephone. With it, your swarm is a verifiable pipeline.

Your competitors are already thinking about this

The teams building serious multi-agent systems for finance, healthcare, legal, and enterprise? They are not asking "can we make the swarm faster." They are asking "can we prove what the swarm did."

Because the first company that can show a regulator 100 verifiable receipts for 100 agent actions wins the contract. The company with "trust us, the logs say it worked" loses.

If your swarm does not have receipts, you are building on borrowed time. Someone who does will eat your lunch.

Add receipts to your swarm in 30 seconds

You do not rebuild anything. You do not change your coordination logic. You add one thing and receipts appear.

See it first: https://zambo.dev/demo/ - click, get a receipt, 10 seconds. That is what every agent in your swarm will produce.

For AI clients: copy https://zambo.dev/mcp into Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf, VS Code. Done.

For your swarm framework, one command:

CrewAI (the most popular swarm framework):

pip install crewai-zambo
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/crewai-zambo/

LangChain:

pip install langchain-zambo
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/langchain-zambo/

OpenAI Agents:

pip install aer1-openai-agents
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/aer1-openai-agents/

AutoGen:

pip install aer1-autogen
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/aer1-autogen/

Agno:

pip install agno-aer1
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/agno-aer1/

LlamaIndex:

pip install aer1-llamaindex
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://pypi.org/project/aer1-llamaindex/

npm:

npm install aer-1
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

https://www.npmjs.com/package/aer-1

One install. Every agent in your swarm now leaves receipts. Your coordination code does not change.

The standard behind it

AER-1 is the open IETF Internet-Draft that defines what an execution receipt commits to and how to verify it. It is not vendor lock-in. Anyone can implement it. Anyone can verify a receipt independently.

Your swarm does the work. AER-1 proves it happened.
