What changed Two accelerator-adjacent companies took Platinum membership. Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon each receive one seat on the PyTorch Foundation Governing Board and one on the Technical Advisory Council. Ant Group joined at Gold. Both Platinum members named hardware support as their agenda. The Foundation's announcement says they will work with the community to strengthen support for hardware and accelerators across the PyTorch ecosystem. There is now precedent for the mechanism working. Huawei joined in 2023, helped start the Accelerator Integration Working Group, and carried Ascend NPU through to becoming the first additional platform in PyTorch. The scale is already substantial.
