What changed The inspections are real and coordinated. Through September 2026 the European AI Office, working with 24 national market surveillance authorities, launched the first coordinated wave of compliance inspections under the EU AI Act. Three sectors went first. France's CNIL, Germany's BfDI and Spain's AESIA led the initial requests, focusing on automated resume-screening tools in HR, algorithmic credit-assessment systems in retail banking, and AI triage tools in private healthcare clinics. The requests were already out. On 1 September 2026 the European Commission confirmed it had sent the first requests for information under AI Act enforcement to more than 30 AI companies.
