Why an incident report outranks a portfolio project A portfolio project is a demonstration of a happy path. Somebody built a retrieval-augmented chatbot, it answers questions about a set of PDFs, the README has a screenshot and a diagram, and the repository has eleven commits made across one weekend. It proves that the author can assemble components that other people designed, in an environment where nothing was trying to break. That is a real skill, but it is now an extremely common one, and a hiring manager reading forty applications for one role cannot separate candidates on it.
