What changed at Build 2026 For years the story of Microsoft and AI has had one protagonist: OpenAI. The GPT family powered Copilot in Windows, Office and — most importantly for the people reading this — inside GitHub Copilot, where a large share of working developers across Bengaluru, Pune, London and Manchester now write code. At Build 2026, on roughly 2 June, that story gained a second protagonist: Microsoft itself. The Microsoft AI Superintelligence Team announced two models built entirely in-house.
