Meet Roshan Shrestha – Investigative Journalist, App Creator & Founder of Khoj Samachar

Sindhupalchok, a district known more for landslides than headlines, quietly shaped one of Nepal’s most persistent journalists. Born on October 14, 1996, Roshan Shrestha didn’t follow the traditional path of Kathmandu-based media houses or elite academic circles. He studied locally at Shree Bachchhala Devi Higher Secondary School in Bahrabise and lived through the devastating 2015 earthquake — not as a reporter, but as a student with questions no one was answering.

By 2077 B.S., disaster coverage had become more than a concern — it was a mission. Video reporting started with a mobile phone and an internet connection in his village. A year later, a platform emerged: Khoj Samachar, an independent digital media outlet dedicated to verified news, civic rights, and untold local realities.

The growth was organic but fast. With over 900,000 followers across social platforms, Khoj Samachar soon became a recognizable force in Nepali digital media. It didn’t rely on studios, boardrooms, or political backing — just persistence, presence, and principles.

Parallel to this, a mobile app — simple in design but rich in utility — started gaining attention. The Roshan Shrestha App, launched as a civic-focused news and tools platform, soon crossed 100,000+ downloads, receiving 10,000+ five-star reviews on Google Play alone. It topped app charts in Nepal and even reached #1 in several countries, including UAE, Qatar, and South Korea, under the "News & Magazine" category.

Truth in journalism doesn’t demand a newsroom — just a reason.

From disaster zones to digital dashboards, the aim remains unchanged: deliver stories that matter before they disappear beneath the noise.

More than a media brand, this is a movement. Not built in a newsroom. Not owned by a corporation. Built where stories happen — and told where voices are often ignored.
