I've been in this field for 10+ years, and have seen all the transitions and break throughs at different points of time. From the first time using the internet as a 90s kid to having to adapt to a cloud world, i've seen it all. I've built multiple services with Ruby on Rails, Java stack, React, AWS/Azure, you name it. I'm in Big Tech, and my path was set. But now, I'm stumped. Its AI everywhere, and it has taken over. Within my own org, I feel useless as I use Cline and other tools to migrate a service that would have taken at least 3 month, to just within 2 weeks. Despite delivering (just typing what I wanted it to do), I had mixed feelings. I was not sure if I have to be happy about the outcome or just sad about the inevitability. All over social media, its about AI will not replace anyone but only the ones that don't use AI. Well, I don't believe that. It's already here and has outsourced Intelligence. I'm never going to be better than it. That's the reality.
But What can I do? All I can do is the best I can do. I have come up with a plan, and I'm sticking with it. To study everything I can, to transition from a software engineer to an AI engineer.
