I use this technique and love it for one reasons: It breaks the ‘flow’ of frantically trying everything attacking a problem when I am stuck, that 5 minutes break gives my brain a chance to get out from the process. When I come back, I usually can see the problem from different angles and resolve it quicker. Similarly, breaking also help me to focus on the problem, prevent me from getting into ‘the zone’, which tends to lead to a lot of code very fast but with lower quality.
I use workrave to enforce the break. When the time is up, it blocks the keyboard and screen and there isn’t a way to not to break. Absolutely awesome piece of software, I am very grateful to the creators.
I will check out workrave, that seems like a good feature. Thanks!
can you tell me the name of the software of PC version?

Thank you so much.
Been a long-time follower of Pomodoro and it works best for me. I mostly set up one Pomodoro of 40 mins and 10 mins break after every Pomodoro.
Loved the way you explained everything 🙌
Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it!
I've experimented with the times quite a lot and usually do 50 and 10 minutes on normal days and on days that I am not feeling it, switch to 40 minutes and 20 minutes. It also helps break blocks into hours and that works best for me. But I feel everyone should adjust them according to themselves since every person has a different attention span.
One small addition, if we get to do some work generally we should mark it for later. But, if we do that task we mark that pomodoro void. This keeps the integrity of the pomodoro.
That is what the creator recommends, I mentioned it in the last bullet but different people have different ways of accomodating distractions.
Thanks for sharing, i could definitely use this!
Hope it helps.
