I got to experience something unfamiliar to me: being around people who are excited about building things.
Hacktoberfest at TinkerSpace, Kochi was my first time in a space like this. People were exploring ideas, contributing to open source, and learning from one another.
The story that stayed with me
The talk that stuck with me was by Sunith V S, who told the story of how he got into open source. It started with something simple: he wanted the Hacktoberfest t-shirts. But somewhere along the way he actually fell in love with contributing.
Then he hit a problem of his own: maintaining a portfolio. So he built devb.io to solve it, and made it public so anyone could contribute.
He also shared the story of JioBase, which became a community fix when Supabase was blocked in India. A problem that was frustrating a lot of developers at once turned into something he built and shared.
What I loved was the shape of it. It was a journey of excitement and frustration. He did something he enjoyed, ran into friction, and solved it.Each project came out of a problem he actually felt
Being there showed me that this space is about curiosity, sharing what you know, asking questions, experimenting, and building things together.
I’m still figuring out my own place in this world, but being in that room gave me a glimpse of what it could look like.
A reminder to keep exploring. 🌱
Have you been to a tech meetup that changed how you saw the community?
I’d love to hear that!!
