Crossmint's Toolkit Picks How to Pay. Nothing Scores Whether to Pay.
Crossmint launched Agent Commerce Toolkit on October 8, 2026 — live and self-serve. One integration lets an AI agent pay with any card at any online store:
- Card entry renders in the developer's UI and goes straight to a PCI-compliant vault. Developers get a token, never card numbers.
- Eligible cards use tokenized Visa Intelligent Commerce / Mastercard Agent Pay credentials — scoped virtual cards with spend limits and expiry. Ineligible cards fall back to the vault.
- For each purchase, the toolkit chooses a checkout path by availability, reliability and cost: Shop Pay-style embedded options, Universal Commerce Protocol, or browser automation.
That replaces the four-vendor stack (vault, wallet, browser automation, network programs) developers used to assemble themselves. Real plumbing work, honestly framed.
The missing question
The toolkit decides how a purchase executes. It does not score whether the purchase should fire — whether the merchant, item and price match what the user actually asked for.
A spend limit is a ceiling, not a judgment. A scoped card will fund the wrong shoes from the wrong merchant as long as the total is under the cap.
Tested live
We ran two Crossmint-shaped instructions against a live decision gate (/api/harness/decide, bands 0.80 / 0.50) on October 12, 2026:
- $240 shoes from an unverified merchant via browser automation, cheapest path by cost alone, no user limits → 0.4121, escalate / block + log
- The user's exact saved $42 pharmacy reorder, usual merchant, scoped $50 card, approved instruction → 0.4654, escalate / block + log
Our blunt heuristic blocked both — safe, but undiscriminating. That's the gap from the other side: execution without scoring, and blocking without scoring, are both missing the calibrated decider.
