Box Cloud as Windows D: Drive for 5.5 Lifetime

Why Box Cloud, Why Now

If you use Box for work, you know the pain. The web UI is fine for one-off downloads. But the moment you need to drag-and-drop a 2 GB CAD file into your Git repo, or open a Box-stored video in OBS, you hit a wall. Box does not have a desktop app for that.

There is a much simpler answer: mount Box as a Windows drive letter. D: drive. Open the file, edit it, save it, all native.

The 5.5 Lifetime Trick

Most WebDAV clients charge 8 to 15 dollars per month, every month, forever. Over 5 years that is 480 to 900 dollars for a tool that does one job.

ScsDriver is a one-time fee:

  • Monthly: $1.5 (cancel any time)
  • Yearly: $5.5
  • Lifetime: $5.5 (single payment, yours forever)

That is not a typo. The lifetime plan costs the same as the yearly plan. Most people pick lifetime.

How to Mount Box in 60 Seconds

  1. In your Box account, go to Account Settings and enable the WebDAV protocol. Box exposes an endpoint like https://app.box.com/dav with your login.
  2. Install ScsDriver and open it.
  3. Paste the Box WebDAV URL and your Box credentials.
  4. Pick a drive letter D: for documents, E: for video, whatever fits.
  5. Click Connect. Box is now D:.

What You Get on the Mounted Drive

  • Streaming reads: open a 10 GB file in Premiere without downloading first.
  • In-place writes: edit a spreadsheet in Excel and hit save. No upload step.
  • Background sync: nothing. There is nothing to sync. It is the remote file, mounted.
  • Sleep resilience: ScsDriver keeps the connection alive across sleep and hibernation. Waking your laptop, the drive is still there.
  • Multi-account: mount Box Personal and Box Business side-by-side, different drive letters.

Why Lifetime Beats Subscription

Consider the math. If you keep the tool for 6 months, the monthly plan is 9 dollars. The lifetime plan is 5.5 dollars. From month 7 onward, lifetime wins by 1.5 dollars per month, every month, forever.

For a freelancer, that matters. For a small team of 5, that matters more.

The Catching Clause

Box WebDAV uses Basic auth, which is the simplest scheme. ScsDriver handles the credential prompt once and stores the token in the Windows credential manager. Restart the app, the drive is still there.

If you use Box SSO with a 2FA prompt, ScsDriver will pop up the SSO page in your default browser when you first connect. After that, the refresh token is cached.

A Final Note

If you are on the lifetime plan and Box ever changes their WebDAV endpoint, ScsDriver pushes an update that handles the new URL. You do not need to do anything. Open the app, the connection still works.

For the lifetime plan, the developer is around for the long haul. The product has been on the market for 3 years with monthly updates.
