ScsDriver vs Mountain Duck — Windows WebDAV Mount Comparison

Mountain Duck is a name you see on every "WebDAV client Windows" roundup, and for good reason — it is a polished Swiss-Army knife that supports SFTP, WebDAV, S3, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and more from a single UI. The price reflects that: a single personal license is roughly $40, with volume discounts kicking in only above 50 seats. We compared it head-to-head against ScsDriver on a Windows 11 workstation for a month of daily use, and the answer is not as obvious as the price difference suggests.

Where Mountain Duck wins

  • Protocol breadth: 14+ protocols in one client. ScsDriver is WebDAV + SFTP + SMB + NFS + a dozen cloud providers; Mountain Duck includes everything plus WebDAV over WebSocket, WebDAV with delta sync, and some niche protocols.
  • Cross-platform parity: Mountain Duck has nearly identical UIs on Windows and macOS. If you switch OS frequently, that matters.
  • Smart-sync: it can selectively download files only when opened, saving disk. ScsDriver caches the whole mount.

Where ScsDriver wins on Windows specifically

  • Real local disk semantics: ScsDriver uses DocFlt / cbfs to expose WebDAV as a true NTFS volume. Mountain Duck, like RaiDrive, is a network redirector underneath, so apps that refuse UNC paths refuse Mountain Duck too.
  • Encoding: Chinese, Japanese, Korean filenames render correctly on ScsDriver. Mountain Duck still hits OEM code-page issues on non-English Windows installations.
  • Price: $9.99/year vs $40 one-time. If you only need WebDAV on Windows, ScsDriver is roughly 4x cheaper annually.
  • 24/7 stability: ScsDriver has auto-reconnect + heartbeat; Mountain Duck requires manual remount after network drops.

Where Mountain Duck's extra features are wasted on Windows-only users

If you do not need WebDAV-over-WebSocket or delta sync (and most Windows WebDAV users do not), Mountain Duck's protocol breadth is paid for but unused.

Verdict

If you are a multi-OS user with multiple protocols to mount and you want one client for everything, Mountain Duck earns its $40. If you are Windows-only and your primary need is a real local disk WebDAV mount that will not break on long-running services, ScsDriver is the better value.
