ScsDriver vs NetDrive — Windows Cloud Storage Mount
NetDrive is the enterprise-grade veteran of the WebDAV-on-Windows field. It targets IT shops with strict requirements: S3-compatible backends, SFTP, WebDAV, FTPS, all in one daemon, with full audit logging and integration into AD authentication. The price reflects that: $49.95 per year per seat for the standard edition, $99 per seat for the enterprise edition with full audit + RBAC. We compared it against ScsDriver over six weeks with a 12 TB Aliyun OSS bucket backing a video production workflow.
Where NetDrive is the right choice
- Enterprise audit + RBAC: NetDrive logs every mount, every access, every error to a centralized log. ScsDriver logs locally to error.log only.
- AD / LDAP authentication integration: if your WebDAV server authenticates against Active Directory, NetDrive can pass through those credentials transparently. ScsDriver uses stored credentials only.
- S3 protocol depth: NetDrive understands S3 object versioning, multipart uploads, and lifecycle policies. ScsDriver mounts via WebDAV-fronted S3, which works but loses some S3-native features.
Where ScsDriver wins for small teams and individuals
- Price: $9.99/year vs $49.95+/year. For a single-seat freelancer or a 3-person team, the price gap is real.
- Real local disk: ScsDriver exposes WebDAV as a real NTFS volume. NetDrive mounts as a network share, with the same UNC limitations.
- Encoding: ScsDriver handles Chinese filenames correctly out of the box; NetDrive still hits code-page issues.
- 24/7 stability: ScsDriver has automatic reconnection; NetDrive requires manual remount.
Where neither is right
If you need full enterprise SSO, RBAC, audit logs, and S3-native features, neither tool is the right choice — you need a proper enterprise file gateway like Panzura or Nasuni, and you should expect a 5-figure annual bill.
Verdict
If you are a one-to-five-person team mounting WebDAV on Windows and you do not need enterprise audit logs, ScsDriver is the better value. If you are running a regulated IT shop with audit requirements, NetDrive (or a Panzura-class product) is what you actually need.
