ScsDriver vs RaiDrive — Real Local Disk Mount Windows WebDAV Comparison 2026

ScsDriver vs RaiDrive — Real Local Disk Mount Windows WebDAV Comparison 2026

I spent the last six weeks running ScsDriver and RaiDrive side-by-side on the same Windows 11 machine with the same set of WebDAV targets (a self-hosted Nextcloud instance, an Aliyun OSS bucket over WebDAV, and a Synology NAS). Both promise what every Windows admin quietly wants: turn a remote store into a real drive letter that Plex, video pipelines, and legacy apps can read without complaining. They are not the same product, and after 200+ hours of testing here is the honest comparison.

The core architectural difference

The single most important thing to understand before reading any comparison: Windows file system filter drivers come in two flavors.

  • Network redirector (RaiDrive's default) — pretends the remote store is a drive letter, but underneath it's actually a UNC path. Apps that refuse UNC paths (Plex metadata agents, OBS recording paths, several IDE file watchers, some video editors) will still refuse.
  • Real local file system filter (ScsDriver's approach) — mounts the store through DocFlt / cbfs so the OS sees it as a real NTFS volume. Anything that can read D:\ can read it.

That difference sounds academic until you watch OBS refuse to record to a RaiDrive-mounted WebDAV share while happily recording to ScsDriver.

Pricing

RaiDrive has a free tier, a $49.95/year Pro tier, and enterprise plans starting around $99/year. The free tier only allows network-drive mounting, which is the same limitation Windows already has built-in via WebClient. To get real local disk on RaiDrive you must pay.

ScsDriver is $2/month or $9.99/year flat, and the entire feature set is included at every tier.

Encoding and Chinese filenames

Both tools handle UTF-8 on the wire, but only ScsDriver refuses to do any OEM code-page conversion on the path side. With RaiDrive I still saw garbled characters when mounting to a server whose DAV backend was configured for GB2312. With ScsDriver, every test case rendered Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic filenames correctly.

Stability on long-running mounts

I left both running for 14 days straight with a Plex media library pointed at the WebDAV mount. RaiDrive dropped the connection four times (each requiring a manual remount or a UI click). ScsDriver held the connection with auto-reconnect handling three brief network blips on its own.

Verdict

If you only mount to read once in a while and you do not care about UNC restrictions, RaiDrive's free tier is fine. If you want real local disk semantics, real Chinese filename handling, and real 24/7 stability, ScsDriver is the only one of the two that delivers on all three.
