University ATAR Calculators: Monash, Deakin, La Trobe, RMIT and Swinburne

Monash, Deakin and La Trobe each run their own VCE ATAR calculator, and Deakin, La Trobe and RMIT also publish tools that estimate adjustment points; Swinburne's ATAR calculator matches an ATAR to its courses. The university calculators are built on earlier years of VTAC scaling data and are meant as a guide. Use a VCE calculator to estimate your ATAR, then use the university's own tool to see how its adjustments and guarantees apply to the courses you want.

University ATAR calculators key facts

- Monash: its ATAR calculator scales raw study scores using last year's VTAC data; the Monash Guarantee ATAR starts at 70.00 for eligible students.
- Deakin: its ATAR calculator uses VTAC's 2024 scaling report; its equity schemes calculator is set up for 2027 applications using 2025 data, with up to 27 aggregate points.
- La Trobe: separate ATAR and adjustment factor calculators; a maximum of 20 aggregate adjustment points.
- RMIT: the maximum equity adjustment is 16 points (20 aggregate points); a postcode tool checks regional adjustments.
- Swinburne: the ATAR calculator lists courses for an ATAR; Guaranteed Entry ATARs are checked against your selection rank.

Which scaling data the calculators use

A university calculator is only as current as the scaling year inside it. Monash says its calculator uses last year's VTAC data, La Trobe says it uses VTAC scaling data from previous years, and Deakin's ATAR calculator names VTAC's 2024 Study Score Scaling Report. Scaling moves a little every year, so two calculators can give different estimates for the same study scores. Our {{link:vce-atar-calculator|VCE ATAR calculator}} uses VTAC's 2025 report and shows every scaled score, so you can compare it with any university tool. The full table is in {{link:vce-scaling-2025|VCE scaling 2025}}.

Monash: ATAR calculator and the Monash Guarantee

Monash describes its calculator as scaling your raw study scores to give an estimated ATAR based on last year's VTAC data, to be used as a guide only. Separately, most Monash undergraduate courses have a Monash Guarantee ATAR, which is lower than the expected selection rank. If you are eligible, reach the Monash Guarantee ATAR for your course (starting at 70.00) and meet the entry requirements, Monash guarantees an offer.

Monash lists these groups as possibly eligible for the Guarantee: students who have experienced financial disadvantage, live in a low socio-economic area, live in or attend school in a regional or remote area, are Indigenous Australians, attend a school on Monash's under-represented list, or live in Australia as an asylum seeker or refugee. Equity schemes (formerly SEAS) are separate: they raise your selection rank, which Monash uses when making offers. Its Indigenous Entry Scheme admits Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants with an achieved ATAR of 50 or more, higher for some courses.

Deakin: ATAR calculator, equity schemes calculator and Guaranteed ATAR

Deakin runs three things that are easy to mix up:

- The ATAR calculator estimates scaled study scores from your raw scores using VTAC's 2024 scaling report.
- The equity schemes calculator estimates adjustment points. Deakin says it uses 2025 data for 2027 applications, that students can receive up to 27 additional aggregate points including equity scheme points and subject adjustments, and that the figure shown may differ from your final VTAC adjustment and is not an offer.
- The Deakin Guaranteed ATAR is published upfront for most undergraduate courses and is, on average, 10 points below the lowest selection rank for eligible students. It is based on your ATAR before any adjustments.

Deakin lists the Guaranteed ATAR groups as students at a Deakin under-represented school, students who live or study in a regional or remote location, and students of Indigenous Australian descent. You are checked automatically if you stay opted in to the "personal information and location" category in your VTAC application. Deakin's own example: if the guaranteed ATAR for your course is 65 and your ATAR is at least 65 without adjustments, you are guaranteed an offer. You may be eligible for both the guarantee and equity schemes.

La Trobe: ATAR calculator and adjustment factors calculator

La Trobe's ATAR calculator takes up to six VCE Units 3 and 4 subjects, including at least one English, and estimates your ATAR from earlier VTAC scaling data. Its adjustment factors calculator then estimates SEAS, scholarship and other adjustment points. La Trobe explains that these points are added to your raw aggregate, which re-ranks your ATAR, rather than adding directly to the ATAR, and that you can receive a maximum of 20 aggregate adjustment points across all adjustments. It notes the estimate is based on the previous admission period and that an adjusted ATAR does not guarantee entry.

RMIT: adjustment factors and SNAP

RMIT publishes how its adjustments work. The maximum equity adjustment through equity schemes and scholarships or RMIT Access is 16 points, or 20 aggregate points. Its Schools Network Access Program (SNAP) gives priority entry to students from designated Victorian schools whose ATAR is within 20 points of the lowest selection rank for their preferred program. RMIT also has a postcode check for regional adjustments.

RMIT's own worked example: an ATAR of 62.00 is 109.61 aggregate points. Add 10 aggregate points for location and 2 for a subject adjustment, and the selection rank is about 70.85, read from VTAC's ATAR to aggregate table. RMIT stresses that equity adjustments do not guarantee entry.

Swinburne: ATAR calculator and Guaranteed Entry ATAR

Swinburne's ATAR calculator matches a predicted or actual ATAR with a list of Swinburne courses. It may show some courses with a slightly higher ATAR than the one you enter, because subject bonuses or SEAS could still bring you into range. If you reach a course's Guaranteed Entry ATAR and meet the other requirements, Swinburne guarantees an offer, and it uses your adjusted ATAR (selection rank) to decide whether you have reached it.

How to use these tools together

- Estimate your ATAR. Enter your expected study scores in the {{link:vce-atar-calculator|VCE ATAR calculator}}. If you only know your marks, start with the {{link:vce-study-score-calculator|VCE study score calculator}}.
- Add likely adjustments. Use the optional adjustment points box in our calculator, or the university's own tool, to see a selection rank estimate for a specific course.
- Check guarantees. See whether you are eligible for the Monash Guarantee, the Deakin Guaranteed ATAR or Swinburne's Guaranteed Entry ATAR for the courses you want.
- Compare with the course page. Last year's lowest selection rank and lowest ATAR are on each course page. See {{link:what-atar-do-i-need|what ATAR do I need}}.
- Apply for equity schemes. Equity schemes only count if you apply through VTAC. See {{link:atar-equity-schemes-explained|SEAS and EAS explained}}.

University ATAR calculator myths

- "The university's calculator is the official ATAR." Only VTAC calculates your ATAR. University calculators are estimates built on earlier data.
- "Adjustment points raise my ATAR." They raise your selection rank for particular courses. Your ATAR stays the same. See {{link:atar-bonus-points|ATAR bonus points}}.
- "Every guarantee works the same way." Deakin checks your ATAR before adjustments, while Swinburne checks your selection rank.

FAQ

Is the Monash ATAR calculator accurate?

Monash says its calculator uses last year's VTAC data and should be used as a guide only. Scaling changes each year, so treat any calculator, including ours, as an estimate.

What data does the Deakin ATAR calculator use?

Deakin's VCE ATAR calculator says its scaled scores are based on VTAC's 2024 Study Score Scaling Report. Its separate equity schemes calculator uses 2025 data for 2027 applications.

How many adjustment points can I get at La Trobe?

La Trobe says the maximum aggregate adjustment is 20 points across all adjustments, although some courses have their own rules.

What is the maximum equity adjustment at RMIT?

RMIT lists a maximum equity adjustment of 16 points, or 20 aggregate points, through equity schemes and scholarships or RMIT Access.

Is the Deakin Guaranteed ATAR based on my adjusted ATAR?

No. Deakin says it is based on your original ATAR before any equity adjustments.
