Stop scoring people like they are failing
The single biggest mistake in sleep apps is the 0-100 score with a color. It turns an instinct-driven biological process into a school report. Design for the bad night

The feedback loop must be daily, not weekly
Weekly reports are the enemy of habit formation. A user who checks once a week has checked four times by the time they quit. The daily view needs one actionable insight per night, not a dashboard. One sentence: "You snored 40% more than last night — you drank after 20:00, same as the night you snored most." That is the loop that makes a sleep app a habit.
Respect the phone's constraints
A sleep app that murders the battery is a sleep app that gets uninstalled at 11pm. Recording all night without killing the phone is a hard engineering problem, and it is a UX feature. - Replace "Good night's sleep!" celebrations with neutral, informative phrasing.

- Instrument time-to-value: the first "aha" must happen by night two.
Sleep apps fail because they are built for the perfect night. Build for the bad night — that is where trust is earned, and trust is the only retention mechanic that works in this category.
