The main difference you can feel between Thinkpad T and X is the price. But, the X is lighter and smaller, and consumes less power, suitable for traveling. But computationally speaking, both can give you the same experience, it depends on the model.
Regarding the Mac, a good customization with some linux distro can surpass any equivalent Mac comparatively and with much less expense.
Decide on an OS first, then screen size.
I have a Thinkpad t480s and I wouldn't want it any other way. I have used 12->13' screens and found that the t480s' 14' screen is perfect.
Yeah you are right, considering I am already working on Linux on my Dell laptop,
so would it worth get mac mini with i7 and 16 GB for just programming
