Disclosure first: Last Word is my own project. I am posting it here for feedback, not as a neutral recommendation.
The idea
Last Word is a small experiment: a public page that always plays exactly one voice message, up to 45 seconds long.
- Anyone can listen, no account needed.
- To take the spot you pay. On the main "World" page the first message costs $1, and every replacement doubles the price: $1, $2, $4, $8...
- Your message stays featured until somebody pays to replace it, and the earlier ones stay in the public history.
- If you would rather have your own corner, you can request a Topic or Place page for $5, first message included (requested pages are checked before they go live).
Why I built it
Most "shout into the void" products are free, so the loudest thing on them is whatever the ranking likes that day. A price that doubles makes the spot scarce and self-limiting: the ladder stops when nobody wants to double again. It is the simplest engagement mechanic I could think of that needs no likes, no followers and no ads.
What I am unsure about
- Does the doubling price feel like a game, or like a wall? $1 to $2 to $4 feels playful to me, $32 might not.
- What keeps the page interesting while nobody is bidding? Right now the featured message just sits there.
- Moderation: 45 seconds of audio is an easy place to hide something unpleasant. Any suggestions for a light-touch review that does not require a human to listen to everything?
Payments go through Stripe, so no card data touches the app itself.
If you want to look at it: https://lastword.originsoftconsultancy.com/ - the World spot is currently empty, nobody has claimed it yet. If you take it, tell me how the bidding ladder felt, and I will report back here on how it goes.
What would you record in 45 seconds?
