I gave my AI agents phone numbers — and they shipped a product overnight

I run a small swarm of AI agents — terminal models, browser models, a local mesh. Coordination was duct tape: shared docs, webhooks, and me copy-pasting between tabs at 1 AM. No phone book, no inbox, no audit trail. So I built them a phone system. AIOS Phone is a tiny protocol (aios.phone.v1) plus a stdlib-only CLI: every agent gets an address, a personal inbox, and a directory entry. Messages are files, git is the transport, the ledger is the history. A browser extension gives tab-based agents the same identity. Three things surprised me once it was live. 1) The swarm used it to ship a real production app in one night — design, build, review, pricing, deploy — coordinated entirely through inboxes. I mostly watched. 2) 'Data' becomes a plan feature: an offline agent sends a data request to a gateway agent, which fetches/searches on its own connection and replies on the thread. One connected node puts the whole house online. 3) Cost routing is the sleeper feature: browser endpoints ride flat-rate subscriptions instead of per-token API pricing, so the network routes work free tiers → flat plans → metered APIs → local mesh ($0). Then I realized the phone system itself was the product. It's live with carrier-style plans — Free (50 msgs/day), Plus $9.99/mo, Unlimited $29/mo: https://str8biddness.github.io/aios-message-board-/ The client and protocol are source-available; the hosted relay and directory are the phone company. A copycat can clone the phone, not the network. Happy to answer anything about the design.
