India’s AI Revolution Begins with Yotta’s Launch of ‘myShakti’ on DeepSeek | Darshan Hiranandani

India is making significant strides toward AI self-reliance with the recent launch of its first fully sovereign generative AI chatbot, myShakti. Developed by Yotta Data Services, this platform is built on the open-source DeepSeek AI model. It operates exclusively on Indian servers, ensuring both data privacy and robust security. Hosted at Yotta’s NM1 data center, myShakti utilizes 128 H100 GPUs to provide powerful infrastructure. The chatbot is currently in its beta phase and available for free on the myShakti.ai website.

Darshan Hiranandani, CEO of the Hiranandani Group and Chairman of Yotta Data Services, described the launch as a direct response to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s call to host DeepSeek within Indian borders. He emphasized that this launch aligns with India’s goal of reducing reliance on foreign AI systems and bolstering the nation’s technological sovereignty.

myShakti is designed with an integrated feedback mechanism, allowing it to improve and refine its performance over time. Yotta aims to boost AI adoption in India by reducing infrastructure costs and making AI more accessible to businesses, researchers, and startups. Sunil Gupta, Yotta’s CEO and co-founder, highlighted that DeepSeek’s open-source nature and minimal computing requirements significantly reduce AI costs. He likened this shift to the mobile revolution in India, viewing this moment as India’s “Sputnik moment for AI,” positioning the country to take the lead in AI innovation.

DeepSeek challenges traditional AI models by showing that efficiency can match the raw computational power typically required. With just $5.6 million invested in older GPUs, DeepSeek has demonstrated the potential of reinforcement learning to train competitive AI systems. This opens up an opportunity for India to develop AI solutions tailored to the country’s cultural, linguistic, and geopolitical needs while maintaining control over its data.

Yotta remains committed to enhancing India’s AI capabilities, continuously improving its generative AI solutions. This move aligns with India’s growing emphasis on building indigenous AI models to lessen dependence on foreign technology. The importance of locally developed AI has gained significant attention, especially following the announcement of Project Stargate by U.S. President Donald Trump. As discussions about India’s need for its own AI infrastructure continue to evolve, many tech leaders in the country stress the urgency of this development.

Abhishek Upperwal, founder and CEO of Soket AI Labs, has also shared plans to develop AI innovation similar to DeepSeek in India. Meanwhile, Ola’s Krutrim AI platform has incorporated DeepSeek models into its cloud infrastructure. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal emphasized that India cannot afford to be left behind in AI development, and his company’s integration of DeepSeek models ensures that India remains at the forefront of global AI innovation. As India’s tech ecosystem continues to shift toward homegrown solutions, the country is positioning itself for a future of AI independence and leadership.
