Before a subscriber reads an email, they read a line on their bank statement: the descriptor. If that short string of characters does not match the name in their head for the business, the failed payment that follows looks like fraud, the retry looks like an error, and the recovery message lands as a stranger asking for card details. Half of trust is decided by one line of text most businesses set once and forget.
The fix is unglamorous: make the descriptor the name customers actually use for you, keep it identical everywhere, and say it out loud in the first recovery message so the two match in the customer's mind. Small text, load-bearing.
Swipe Again asks merchants to check their descriptor during setup for exactly this reason, and its Stripe recovery flow names the business the way the customer knows it — in every message, every time.
