TouchGrass AI: Less Scrolling, More Living

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass

What I Built

TouchGrass AI 🌿 is an AI-powered outdoor activity companion that encourages people to spend less time scrolling and more time exploring the real world.

Users can choose their available time, mood, and preferred activity to get personalized outdoor mission ideas. From mindful walks and gardening to birdwatching and nature exploration, the goal is to turn free time into meaningful outdoor experiences.

The idea is simple: Less scrolling. More living.

How I Built It

I built TouchGrass AI as a web application using Google AI Studio and integrated Google's Gemma model through the Gemini API to generate personalized outdoor activity ideas.

The application allows users to choose their available time, mood, and preferred activity to discover outdoor missions. I focused on creating a simple, user-friendly experience that encourages people to take breaks from their screens and explore the world around them.

Building this project helped me learn how generative AI can be integrated into a practical web application to encourage positive offline habits.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation makes AI more accessible to students, independent developers, and communities who want to experiment and build useful solutions.

Models like Gemma give developers the opportunity to explore AI-powered applications and adapt them to real-world problems.

With TouchGrass AI, I wanted to use AI for something beyond generating text: encouraging people to spend less time on their screens and more time outdoors. This project helped me explore how AI can support healthier digital habits and inspire meaningful offline experiences.

I believe technology should not only improve our online lives but also encourage us to connect with the world around us.
