I drink way too much coffee. But at least now I drink it correctly.
I built 10 free coffee tools that run entirely in your browser — no app to install, no account to create, no data collected. Whether you're dialing in espresso or trying to figure out why you can't sleep, there's something here for you.
Brewing Ratios — Get Them Right Every Time
The number one thing that separates good coffee from bad coffee at home is the ratio. Too much water and it's weak. Too little and it's bitter.
Coffee to Water Ratio Calculator — covers 10+ brew methods: pour over, French press, AeroPress, Chemex, Moka pot, and more. Pick your method, enter how many cups you want, and get exact gram measurements. No more guessing.
Cold Brew Ratio Calculator — cold brew is a different beast. This calculator handles both concentrate (dilute later) and ready-to-drink ratios. It also lets you scale up for batch brewing, so you can make a week's worth on Sunday and just pour all week.
Espresso Ratio Calculator — for the espresso nerds. Enter your dose and desired ratio, and it tells you exactly what yield to aim for. Has presets for ristretto, normale, and lungo. If you just bought an espresso machine and everything tastes sour or bitter, start here.
Know Your Caffeine
Most people have no idea how much caffeine they're actually consuming — or how long it sticks around.
Caffeine Intake Calculator — tracks your daily caffeine from coffee, tea, energy drinks, and soda. Compares your total against the FDA's 400mg recommended daily limit. Useful if you're stacking a morning coffee, an afternoon tea, and a pre-workout without thinking about the cumulative effect.
Caffeine Half-Life Calculator — caffeine has a half-life of about 5 hours in most adults. This tool shows you a visual decay curve so you can see exactly when it leaves your system. More importantly, it tells you the latest time you should have your last cup if you want to fall asleep at a specific hour. If you've been wondering why you stare at the ceiling until midnight, this might explain it.
Calories, Costs, and Freshness
Coffee isn't just about taste — there's the health angle and the money angle too.
Coffee Calorie Calculator — a black coffee has 2 calories. A large mocha with whipped cream and oat milk? Closer to 400. This tool breaks down calories and macros based on your drink type, milk choice, sweetener, and extras. You can also compare two drinks side by side. Eye-opening if you're watching your intake but not counting your drinks.
Latte Factor Calculator — the classic personal finance exercise. Enter what you spend on coffee per day, and it shows you the annual cost plus what you'd have if you invested that money instead over 5, 10, or 20 years. I'm not saying stop buying lattes — I'm saying at least know the number.
Coffee Freshness Calculator — enter your roast date and storage method, and it tells you where you are in the freshness timeline. Whole beans stay fresh longer than pre-ground, sealed bags longer than open ones. The tool shows your peak flavor window and when it's time to restock.
Grinding and Brewing
The last two tools help you actually make the coffee once you've got everything dialed in.
Coffee Grind Size Guide — different brew methods need different grind sizes, and this trips up a lot of home baristas. French press needs coarse. Espresso needs fine. AeroPress is somewhere in between. The guide also includes a grinder setting converter for popular grinders like the Baratza Encore, Comandante C40, and 1Zpresso, so you get an actual number to set your grinder to instead of vague descriptions.
Coffee Brew Timer — a step-by-step guided timer for your specific brew method. It walks you through each phase — bloom, pour, wait, plunge — with audio notifications so you can look away from your screen. Supports pour over, French press, AeroPress, Chemex, and other popular methods.
Why Browser-Based?
Every one of these tools runs 100% client-side. Your coffee preferences, caffeine habits, and spending data never leave your device. There's no login wall, no email gate, no "sign up for premium." Just open the tool and use it.
They also work on your phone, which is where most people actually are when they're standing in front of their coffee setup at 6 AM.
All 10 coffee tools are at tool.teamzlab.com/coffee.
If you're a coffee person, try the caffeine half-life calculator first. It's the one that changes behavior.
