5 Free Baby & Parenting Tools Every New Parent Needs

Being a new parent is overwhelming — especially when every product claims to be "essential" and every toy says "educational." I built 5 free browser-based tools to help parents make smarter decisions without downloading apps or creating accounts.

Everything runs locally in your browser. No data leaves your device. No sign-up required.

1. Age-Appropriate Toy Finder

Enter your baby's age (0-36 months) and get personalized toy recommendations based on their developmental stage. Filter by focus area (motor skills, cognitive, sensory, language, social) and budget.

Based on CDC developmental guidelines — not marketing claims from toy companies.

Try it: Age-Appropriate Toy Finder

2. Baby Registry Checklist

An interactive checklist with 49 items across 8 categories (nursery, feeding, diapering, clothing, bath, safety, travel, play). Each item shows priority level (Essential vs Nice-to-Have) and estimated cost range.

Track your progress with a visual progress bar, filter by what you still need, and copy the remaining list to share with family. Everything saves locally so you can come back to it.

3. Baby Proofing Checklist

Room-by-room baby proofing guide with 57 items across 7 areas: kitchen, bathroom, nursery, living room, stairs, garage/outdoors, and whole house. Enter your baby's age to get urgency-level messaging.

Each item is marked Essential or Nice-to-Have. Track completion per room and copy remaining items to share with your partner.

4. Toy Safety Checker

Enter a toy's dimensions and features (small parts, strings, magnets, batteries, material) along with your child's age. The tool checks against official CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) guidelines:

  • Small Parts Test — the official cylinder is 3.17 cm diameter x 5.72 cm deep. If the smallest part fits, it's a choking hazard for kids under 3.
  • String/cord length — no strings for under 12 months, max 18 cm for under 3.
  • Magnet safety — loose magnets are prohibited for kids under 6.
  • Battery safety — exposed batteries fail for all kids under 6.

Get a clear SAFE / CAUTION / UNSAFE rating with specific recommendations.

5. Baby Milestone Tracker

Enter your baby's birth date and track developmental milestones based on the CDC "Learn the Signs. Act Early" program. Covers 7 stages (2-24 months) across motor, language, cognitive, and social skills.

Check off milestones as your baby reaches them. The tool flags any milestones from past stages that haven't been checked yet — a gentle reminder of when to talk to your pediatrician.

All 5 tools are part of our Kids & Parenting hub which also includes baby feeding calculator, diaper cost calculator, child growth tracker, vaccine schedule tracker, and more.

Built with privacy in mind — your baby's data stays on your device.
