Google Drops Country-Specific Domains, Goes All-In on Google.com

Google announced it’s retiring country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like Google.com.au, directing all users to Google.com regardless of their location. Search results will still be geo-targeted based on your actual location, but local domain URLs will disappear from browser address bars.

This move finalizes changes that began in 2017, when Google started delivering location-based results automatically. Google assures users that search functionality and compliance with national laws remain unchanged—just the URL is getting streamlined.
