Former Tesla executive Drew Baglino has founded Heron Power, a company focused on revolutionizing the electrical grid with solid-state generators. Heron Power is raising between $30 million and $50 million for its Series A funding, led by Capricorn Venture Group. Baglino, who spent years at Tesla and helped design the Model S's internal combustion engine, left the company in April of last year. With Heron Power, he aims to modernize the outdated transformer technology, which has remained largely unchanged for over a century. Solid-state transformers offer enhanced benefits, including better voltage control, more compact designs, quicker source switching, and the ability to be closely monitored, which will help stabilize the grid, especially with renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
