Summer Game Fest 2026: Every Major Announcement from Gaming's Biggest Week

The gaming industry's biggest week of the year has come and gone, and Summer Game Fest 2026 delivered a nonstop barrage of reveals. From Sony's PlayStation showcase to Microsoft's Xbox presentation and Geoff Keighley's main stage event, the week set the tone for the next 18 months of gaming. Here's everything you need to know.

PlayStation State of Play: God of War Laufey Leads the ChargeSony opened Summer Game Fest with a PlayStation State of Play that doubled down on premium single-player experiences. The headliner was God of War Laufey, a new entry in Santa Monica Studio's blockbuster franchise that shifts focus to Faye — Kratos' late wife and the mother of Atreus. The reveal trailer showcased stunning visuals and gameplay that appears to blend the franchise's signature brutal combat with a new, more mystical setting. It's a PS5 exclusive and Sony's clearest statement yet that it's returning to its story-driven roots after years of live-service experiments.

Other highlights from the PlayStation showcase included extended looks at Marvel's Wolverine and fresh gameplay from the upcoming Ghost of Yotei expansion. Sony's message was unmistakable: PlayStation is back to making the kind of big-budget single-player games that built its brand.

Summer Game Fest Live: Final Fantasy VII Revelation and a Resident Evil SurpriseGeoff Keighley's main Summer Game Fest Live show on Friday delivered its biggest punch with the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and climactic entry in Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The game picks up immediately after the events of Rebirth and promises to deliver the conclusion fans have been waiting decades for. No release date was announced, but speculation points to a 2027 launch.

Capcom also made waves by officially confirming a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, finally bringing one of the series' cult classics into the modern era. The original Code Veronica has long been considered the forgotten gem of the Resident Evil franchise, and the remake is expected to follow the successful style of the RE2 and RE4 remakes.

RGG Studio set a date for its mysterious new IP Stranger Than Heaven, which will launch on January 15, 2027.
