Apple has completed its acquisition of NeuralArc, a San Francisco-based AI startup specializing in conversational agents, for $2.1 billion — its largest AI acquisition to date.
The Deal
NeuralArc, founded in 2023 by former Google DeepMind researchers, developed a proprietary framework for building context-aware conversational AI. Their technology enables AI agents to maintain coherent conversations across hours while remembering user preferences.
Apple plans to integrate NeuralArc's technology into a completely rebuilt Siri, expected to launch alongside iPhone 18 in September 2027.
Why It Matters
Siri has long lagged behind competitors in conversational ability. While ChatGPT, Gemini, and Alexa have evolved significantly, Siri remains limited to short, command-based interactions. NeuralArc's technology could finally make Siri a genuine AI assistant.
