Hey everyone! How's it going? My name is Carlos and I'm from La Paz, Bolivia. I'm currently out and about, traveling whenever I can, but always with my trusty laptop by my side.
Now, I know what you're thinking - "Carlos, what do you do for work?" Well, I'm a programmer and I love to work with a language called Scala. But don't worry, I'm not here to bore you with technical jargon.
In fact, speaking of programming languages, have you guys heard of functional programming? It's like regular programming, but you spend half your time writing the code and two times more to understand it a few months later. (Just kidding, functional programming is actually pretty cool.)
Anyway, it's great to be here with you all and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone a bit better. Let's have some fun and learn some new things together!
Hey!! Welcome to DEV!!
Thanks so much Devarshi
Welcome Bro
Welcome to DEV!
Thanks Chris!
First of all, welcome to Dev, secondly, functional programming seems interesting, though I always backed out at Monads and understanding "pure-ness".
Nice to meet you Carlos. đ
Thanks Masashi đ , well functional programming is like following a recipe. You put in all the ingredients, follow the steps, and get the same result every time. But mutability is like cooking with your grandma - you never know what you're going to get, and sometimes it's just because she put a little extra love in the process and love is hard to measure haha, have a nice day
Hi Carlos.
I've started to lean more towards functional programming, though my languages are C# and Javascript, rather than Scala. I never understood my functional programming lecturers, but lately I appreciate pure functions for their portability, debugability, and testability.
Hi Anthony, learning functional programming in a classroom can be tough â it's like trying to learn to dance the tango in a small room filled with chairs. It requires a different way of thinking and its syntax can seem like a foreign language. Scala is a good starting point, it's a hybrid language that combines functional programming with imperative and object-oriented programming, making it more accessible for those used to writing imperative code. I really like Alvin Alexander, is an author I truly will suggest you to also take a look if you are interested in some of the good practices alvinalexander.com/scala/learn-fun...
Welcome to DEV!! :)
thanks Felipe!
So freaking cool, i dream of having a work like yours when i am done with the study:)
Hi Almir for sure you will!, hope to see you sharing some work too

My name is Timothy. I am a Nigerian and I live in Nigeria. I love the software world an dthe mystery behind. Two months ago I enrolled for a Software Engineering program. Things started out fine and looked good, until I came in contact with C programing. At the moment I am lost at Sea(C). I have come here in search of guidance and tutoring cos there's no going back on this. I must thrive in it. I am looking forward to getting all the help I can and have a victory story to tell. Thank you.
Hi Timothy. That is a clever pun! I like.
You know what they say: ascii silly question, get a silly ansi đ (another joke!)
I recently bought a copy of The C Programming Language (2E), it's a good read that teaches C syntax and standard library, through complete example programs. Perhaps you already have it, but is worth mentioning any way. It can be difficult to find a copy, so consider second hand copies, or the ebook version, if you have trouble finding it.

Hello guys ! My name is Girolamo and i'm an Italian web developer. I'm so excited to be part of this large community. Just like @krlz i'm a big fan of functional programming, i use it in React and also in PHP! I spend all my free-time developing a small (but fast and easy to use) PHP framework for build API Rest, his name is Micron. So, Micron is based on functional programming, i think this is the future! I hope to become one of the greatest innovator in web developing world... but this goal seems too far! Have a nice day to everyone!
welcome Girolamo, hope to see your work and articles on what you are working on! have a great day!
Thank you @krlz !

Hello everyone, my name is Sidra, and I'm a frontend developer with expertise in frontend technologies. In mid-February, I came across a post on dev.to that caught my attention. I noticed that people were writing about various topics and thought it would be great to participate and share my knowledge.
I decided to write posts about HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React JS to help those who were struggling to learn these concepts. To my surprise, I received fantastic feedback from my readers, and within just one week, I had gained over 1,000 readers.
It feels great to have been able to help others and receive positive feedback for my efforts. I'm looking forward to sharing more of my knowledge with the dev.to community in the future.
Hello everyone!
My name is Sinhue, I live in Chicago, I'm 32 years old
I just started an apprenticeship to learn how to code, I don't have any previous experience on programming but I am pretty excited about starting this new phase in my life, I love learning new things and I am a firm believer in adult learning
I always had an interest on creating programs and learning how to code, however it was something that was in the back of my mind until an opportunity to join an apprenticeship program at DPI was presented to myself
Right now I am working on basics like html and CSS, and I have started watching videos and doing some Ruby on rails, I can't tell you how happy I feel when I see something works ha ha
Even though I have no previous experience, I don't really feel overwhelmed or discouraged when I don't grasp concepts the first time, of course, I'd like to understand more terminology but I know this will come with time and practice, so instead of feeling discouraged or overwhelmed, I feel encouraged to continue learning and developing my skills in this new field, so to all the adult learners who might be new to programming: don't feel discouraged, it is possible and we are all together in this, let's learn together!
Thank you!!
Sinhue
Hi!
Hell yeah, I know this awesome feeling of working code :)
Welcome!
Hey guys! My name is Blaise I like to program with Python and make games with Unity. I'm not that good at programming and I am hoping to get better in the feature. when I am not programming I am usually building random stuff with microcontrollers or watching anime. The only reason I found this site is because some AI told me to, but this seems like a pretty cool site and I can't wait to learn more!
welcome Blaise
Thanks!
Hello everyone,
My name is Damilola, a frontend developer and a technical writer based in Lagos, Nigeria. I am new here and I'm glad to be here.

Hey folks, it's great to meet you! My name is Taiao and I'm currently in the process of pivoting from freelance videography to web development. I have an interest in cybersecurity as a potential career prospect, and my current goal is to become a full-stack developer by the end of my studies this year.
In my free time, I'm a huge Warhammer nerd and enjoy reading the books despite not playing the tabletop game. I'm also into music production and gaming.
I'm thrilled to be joining the dev.to community and can't wait to expand my knowledge and skills alongside other like-minded developers. Here's to broadening our horizons together!
Hello dev world !
My name is Julien Paris, I'm a self-taught developper but also one of the co-founders of the tech cooperative multi (Paris, France).
As a developper I'm a late bloomer : I studied architecture first, then I worked and led a research in the field of cultural industries in several countries, but coding is the thing I finally found the most fulfilling to make a bit of everything, everywhere, all at once :)
It's been some years I'm working professionally as a developper now, and from the start I always open sourced all of my work. I still do.
My appeal goes to #dataviz #opendata #opensource #python and #vuejs
With 4 friends we recently created a small tech cooperative (meaning it's owned by the workers) called
multi
, 'cos "multi" sounded like what digital projects are for us : multi-disciplinary and always open to new ideas. All the software we produce is under open source licences, we mainly work for public institutions and non-profit organisations, thus trying to make our part to the open data movement.Happy to be here ! I believe there's a world to discover here and I hope we'll have great chats here
Hi everyone!
My name is Jessica and I just started a bootcamp for full stack development that I'm both nervous and excited about as this is a quite a career change for me, but I'm really looking forward to learning and developing a new skill and starting on a new path.
My main reasoning other than my income being considerably better is that I want desperately to be able to travel the world and be able to work from anywhere on the planet. The lifestyle change is something I'm very much looking forward to. I'm currently a Lubbock, Texas resident and I truly can't wait to get out there and explore while working and honing my skills at the same time.
I look forward to speaking and working with some of you, I can honestly say that I'm about as green as they come when it comes to this new computational language I'm about to learn, so bear with me. I'm anxiously awaiting my "aha" moment in this world. It's going to be magnificent.
Anyways, hope everyone has an amazing week and I'll chat you up later. Let's go learn some stuff!

Hi everyone, glad to be here. I'm a new member, though I've been over here reading a lot of posts and news since long time ago.
I'm currently working (6+ years) in a big project where I've been since the very first line of code. We developed a Point of Sale for fuel service stations which runs entirely as a web application (Angular 2+), with DotNet WebApi as a backend (running locally and in the cloud), and SignalR for real time communication.
We integrate our Point of Sale with several types of devices, from Forecourt Device Controllers to any type of Payment Terminals.
I love coding and architecting.
I'm interested in almost every technology, but specially in Angular /typescript, dotnet (in all its flavors), the cloud in general terms, containers, devops, with special mention to Azure and Firebase.
Happy to be here to learn and help.
David.
Hi, everyone I am Salman, a Nigerian from Kano state and I just landed in the house with a big boom. I'm new to programming with little experience in JS, PHP, Python and C#. I worked in some mini projects using the mentioned programming languages. Am a little bit better with JS and PHP. Please I need help with the best road to follow or programming field to take as am still in the early learning stage. Thanks

Welcome to DEV!
Hello there Devs.! My name is Jetaun Brown, (Jae for short) and I live on the outskirts of Atlanta, GA. I'm a Dev community newbie but not a coding newbie, so I would like to offer my services as a mentor. Coding can be daunting, and I'd like to be able to guide you along your journey.
I am also looking for contributors to my code, "MircoManager," (which helps you draft, develop, and deploy dependable code. It's a didactic development environment that calls dozens of linters and static analyzers. It dogmatically enforces extremely strict code quality standards for bash, composer, Javascript, JSON, MySQL, PHP, HTML, and YAML. Yep, I know, there is code that currently exists that does similar things, but I'm dedicated to completing MicroManager non the less. :-)
The name MicroManager is a double entendre. It micromanages (AI) developers and the deployment of high-performance backend and frontend microservices.
If you're interested in learning how to code, whether you're a beginner or need help with more advanced topics, I am open to helping anyone. Hit me up, and let's talk about your coding journey, a little about you and your background, and what your goals are.
I'm looking forward to exploring and having fun with you guys!
Hey there, people. It's me, NeonCubeâĸ.
Can't really say much about myself other than the fact that I've been using this website as a quick handbook of forbidden knowledge before actually joining the community for a whirlwind of exciting interactions with other fellow programmers.
Over and out.

Let's just say I'm here to MEET, LEARN & IMPROVE my Web Dev. Skills.
For now, I'm still working with PHP (Vanilla and use a functional programming approach). However, I'm also working towards getting my hands on Laravel.
What else???
Okay... Yeah đ Owing to the fact that I had a not-so-good JavaScript foundation... I'm also currently sparing some time do some JavaScript (React)
Yeah... That's my journey... Nothing FUN đ
Welcome to Dev, Sarah.
Nice to see a fellow Linux fan.
I use Arch, btw.
Hello, one more frontend engineer clocking in, I wonder how many developer people* there are in the world?
*if any other species has committed code, please let me know
Welcome!
Hi all, tbh I'm not sure why I'm here. I have been interested in coding/computers for a while now, but have never really had the need to deep dive into it.
Recently I moved back home and joined one of the churches. The pastor there was redoing the church website and seriously didn't know what he was doing. So one day in church he asked if anyone could help him. So I told him I knew a little bit and would love to see if I could help. Well I ended up doing the entire site for him and it really made me want to finally start learning how to do this stuff, rather than just winging it.
So here I am and I am super excited ro start expanding my knowledge by reading posts from experienced people in the tech field.
Thanks
Hi everyone, Iâm Albert, a data analyst from Accra-Ghana. Iâm currently starting my journey in software engineering with ALX. Iâm looking to get into front end development and maybe somewhere later I would be working with you guys.

Hey Devs đ.
My name is Ogungbemi David (you can call me David OG just in case you can't pronounce my last name đ ). I am an enthusiastic Frontend Developer đ¨âđģ and a Nigerian đŗđŦ. I am here to explore the different opinions, ideas, difficulties people share and face concerning coding and to also learn new things. I am currently learning React js and so far, it's all been good. When I am not coding, I'm either watching a dope movie/sitcom , listening to good music đļ , drawing/sketching đ¨ đ , working out (A new interest I found. I'm starting to understand why some people skip leg days đĒ) or reading đ. I'm happy to be here and I hope to meet new intellectual people that can help me in my web development journey.
If you read up till here, thanks for your time. đ
Hello everyone :-)
Hope you're week is going well.
I am Lasse from Hamburg, Germany. After my Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer-Action I started working as a web developer and UX designer for a digital agency. Besides that I am currently getting started with more and more freelance work. In the spare time I am drumming in two Indie bands.
After a long time of reading awesome articles, tips and tutorials here on DEV I thought I give it a try contributing to the community and maybe writing some articles :-)
Vue.js has been my go to framework for years, but in the last months I fell in love with Svelte, SolidJs and Astro and I am hooked on leaning more towards the backend side of things and finally mastering TypeScript. Also, at the moment I have the urge to get involved in open source projects. I read issues and pull requests from my favorite tools every day, but don't really know how to begin. Guess I just don't want to mess up my first PRs haha.
Anyways, I am glad there is a place like this and I am looking forward to be part of it and getting to know new people and the community :-)
Have a great day!
Lasse
Hey everyone!

Hey there DEV community.
So psyched to be a part of such an awesome space.
Well, without going into too much detail, Rebase Academy is a programming academy that is striving to get programming to more Africans, especially Cameroonians as there is still a long way to go in the software development domain here. We are so happy to be a part of a community that fosters growth, development, assistance and more.
Nice to meet you all once again. đ¤
Hi there I'm Wes.
I am a senior developer by day and hobbyist game maker by night.
My job involves me in all aspects of the development life cycle. I do process architecture, implementation, delivery and maintaining the product. I also do database administration, report building and performance tuning, for good measure. The usual developer tasks.
Making games is so much more fun! It's a rewarding hobby. I have multiple ongoing projects and take my time. One in Lua, one in JavaScript, and one in Inform 6.

Actually I'm a Tech Support at systems, but I've never left to study programing languages. I've knowledge in C# and Javascript and some frameworks from these languages. Right now I'm studying about observability, docker and golang. I prefer the Backend world than Frontend.
That's all folks!
Hey there ! My name is William and I am from Florida. I am a barista at a little cafÊ in downtown Orlando and I recently enrolled myself into UCF's Coding camp and was introduced to Dev.to through the prework modules. I am learning about mindset right now and that keeping up to date with social media is an important aspect of being a developer.
I am excited and nervous to learn more about what it takes to be a programmer and developer. My experience in coding is very basic just a little Java and some css/html.
I'm excited to be here and learn more and more with y'all.
Hi everyone, my name is JosÊ, I'm a 49 years old Service Delivery Manager, all my professional experience is Infrastructure related and as Infra and End User Support Project Manager. Hey :) đ
I'm Nick, from Yorkshire, in the UK. I am self-taught but have worked in the industry for 7 years. I am currently an infrastructure engineer in health tech. I started unskilled and carved a path through software testing and test automation, where I became interested in DevOps culture, cloud infrastructure and development tooling.
I'm introverted and socially unmotivated, but I want to improve professionally, and a great start would be to finally place myself in the community.
I would love to learn more ways to get involved, meet like-minded people, and broaden my knowledge. I have convinced myself I will start blogging; I would also love to find some open-source projects I could help with.
Thanks for your time! đ

Hello everyone. My name is Gbemiga, I'm from Nigeria. I'm a front-end developer, I have a thing for full-stack development but I'm not there yet. What can I say about myself? I enjoy writing and overall working with codes. I'm more of a reader than a writer on social media, this post is actually a big leap for me so please be kind : -)
I'm self-taught till now although that may change soon, I enjoy watching programming videos on Youtube. VS code is what I learnt to program with, I have VIM, and maybe I will be able to master it one day, who knows? Fingers crossed. That's all about me, I hope to make this community my online home. Cheers everyone and happy coding!

Hello
hi
Hey there! Welcome to dev! Hope to read your posts in here!
Hi, my name is Almir, and I am excited to embark on my new journey in web development. For the past nine years, I worked as a truck driver in Sweden, but I knew it was time for a change. Web development was the perfect career choice for me. During my free time, I enjoy growing my social media presence by documenting my web development journey on YouTube and capturing other cool moments on camera. I hope to connect with like-minded individuals on this platform and eventually land my dream job in web development.
Hello đ
I head DevRel at Mastercard. We bring developers together across the world to building next gen financial services through our single front door to APIs and services such as fraud, open banking, cryptocurrency, data intelligence and much more. With passion for APIs and building meaningful solutions, we educate, inspire and enable developers through API stories, news, events and more. With our blog on Mastercard Developers, you can stay connected with all the good stuff. I am looking forward to connecting and learning new things though the community. Thanks, Christie
Hello everyone!
My name is Gayathri, I'm learning Front-end developer from last 3 months. I don't have any previous experience on programming but I am excited about starting this new phase in my life. I hope this community with me in my coding journey.đ
Hey there! My name is Jos, and I'm a student developer and devops engineer. I'm most likely on the younger side of users here from what I've seen personally, being a High School student, but I'm excited to join the community nonetheless!
I primarily focus on work in the Minecraft Development scene, such as servers, plugins, and configuration of existing systems within multiplayer networks at scale. I also dabble in system administration. Primarily setting up and managing Pterodactyl Game Panel instances as well as Teleport within a few companies I'm associated and work with.
That being said, yes, I primarily work with Java and Kotlin (as much I don't want too sometimes đ ) However, I do like to work with Rust and Skript (Skript being a Minecraft Plugin Development language) as well.
I'm excited to meet everyone and learn more about this community, and make friends with some awesome people!
Anyways, thanks for reading my long block of text. How are you doing, random developer on the internet đ?
