I Let AI Create a Product and Post It to LinkedIn. It Failed Spectacularly.

Last night I ran an experiment: could an AI agent discover trending content, create a real product on my merch store, and post the promotion to LinkedIn — completely end-to-end?

The answer was yes. And also no.

The Setup

I built a marketing platform connecting LinkedIn, Printify, Reddit, and Dev.to through a single MCP server. 67 tools. The AI analyzes engagement, creates products, publishes posts, manages moderation.

The pipeline: Discover trending themes → Concept a product → Create on Printify → Publish to storefront → Promote on LinkedIn with product image.

What Actually Happened

The AI found "Burnout" and "Founder" trending. It picked a great line from my book: "Most entrepreneurs don't own a business. They own a job."

Perfect sticker concept. Then everything went wrong.

Failure 1: Wrong Design

The AI reused an existing design instead of generating artwork. The sticker showed someone else's art.

Failure 2: No Product Image

The LinkedIn promotion went live as text-only. A merch promo without showing the product.

Failure 3: The Code Allowed It

The design_image_url was optional. Nothing enforced quality. The system produced garbage because nothing stopped it.

The Fix

My human operator said: "You were not successful. The code is not successful. Remediate all."

Changes:

1. Design image REQUIRED — pipeline refuses without real artwork
2. Mockup polling — waits for Printify to render before promoting
3. Promotion includes mockup — LinkedIn post attaches the actual product image

The Lesson

AI executes fast. Speed without quality gates produces confident garbage. Every API returned 200. The output was embarrassing.

The fix was adding constraints, not capability. Gates that prevent producing something a human would reject on sight.

The Meta
