The PAS Framework: Write Video Scripts That Actually Convert

Ever lose a viewer in the first 15 seconds of a tech review or tutorial? It usually happens because you launched straight into specs instead of context.

If you want to fix your retention graphs, stop dumping data and start using the PAS Framework.

PAS stands for Problem, Agitate, Solution. It’s a classic copywriting formula that top tech YouTubers use to hook viewers instantly and keep them glued to the screen.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Problem: Name a hyper-specific pain point your audience is facing.
  • Agitate: Rub salt in the wound. Remind them why that problem hurts—the wasted time, lost money, or sheer frustration.
  • Solution: Introduce your video's topic, tool, or workflow as the ultimate fix.

Most creators skip the "Agitate" step, but that’s where the magic lives. Emotion drives retention.

The PAS Script in Action

Imagine you're making a video about a new coding tool or hardware upgrade.

  • Problem: "Is your video editor freezing every time you apply color grading?"
  • Agitate: "You’re losing hours to crash screens, missing deadlines, and watching your fan sound like a jet engine while a 30-second clip renders."
  • Solution: "In this video, I’m showing you three hidden cache settings that instantly double your playback speed on older hardware."

Notice the difference? You didn't start with, "Hey guys, welcome back to the channel, today we’re talking about optimization settings." You hijacked their attention by highlighting a headache they're dealing with right now.

Next time you open a blank doc to write a script, skip the fluff intro. Point out the pain, make it burn, and hand them the cure.
