Random chat is fun until it isn't. One bad match can ruin your week — or worse. The good news: most risk is manageable if you prepare for five minutes before your first session.
Before you connect
Use a browser, not a random APK. Legitimate sites work over HTTPS in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. If something asks you to sideload an app from a popup, stop.
Check the basics on the site:
- Privacy policy (who runs it?)
- Report / block / next button
- No forced signup for a quick test
Set up your device:
- Close personal tabs and notifications before sharing screen
- Use a nickname — never your full name
- Consider a virtual background if you use video

During a chat
Text first, video later. You learn more from how someone writes than from a split-second video frame.
Never share:
- Phone number, email, or social handles (until you trust someone — and even then, think twice)
- School, workplace, or neighborhood
- Photos of ID, tickets, or documents in the background
Trust your gut. If someone pushes for personal info, asks you to move to another app immediately, or tries to record you — hit Next and don't explain.
Kids and teens: Random chat platforms are built for adults. If you're under 18, use moderated language-exchange apps with parental awareness instead.
After a session
- Clear browser permissions if you granted camera/mic to a site you won't reuse
- Don't follow up with strangers on Instagram/Telegram unless you deliberately chose to
- If something felt like harassment or a scam, report it on the platform and move on
