What I’m learning about AI and IoT in vehicle manufacturing

So, I’ve been exploring how artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things can be used in different industries, and automotive manufacturing is one area I’ve found interesting.

I’m still learning about the subject, but one thing that stands out to me is how much information can be involved in manufacturing—from equipment and components to production activities.

A quick look at AI and IoT

The Internet of Things (IoT) allows connected devices and sensors to collect and share information.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can analyse data and help identify patterns that may support decision-making.

When these technologies are used together, they may help organisations gain more visibility into physical operations. The specific benefits depend on the problem being addressed and how well the systems fit the environment.

Possible applications in vehicle manufacturing

Some areas where connected technologies may be relevant include:

Production visibility: Helping teams understand activities across manufacturing operations.

Asset and component tracking:Supporting awareness of where equipment or components are located.

Equipment monitoring:Collecting information that can help teams understand equipment conditions.

Operational data analysis: Helping people examine information and identify patterns.

Quality and traceability:Supporting the ability to follow relevant production and component information.

These are general examples of potential industry applications, not a claim that every manufacturer uses them in the same way. Each facility has its own processes, systems, and requirements.

Where OEM Nex AI fits in

OEM Nex AI is part of Aperture Venture Studio’s Automotive Group. The group’s areas of focus include vehicle manufacturing, components, automotive electronics, and autonomous vehicles.

I’m interested in learning more about how technology can be applied across these areas—and how teams determine which challenges should be addressed first.

Some of the Questions I’m exploring

For people familiar with automotive manufacturing or connected technologies:

  • Which manufacturing challenges are difficult to understand without better operational visibility?
  • What tends to make it challenging to introduce new technology into existing processes?
  • How do teams decide whether a connected system is actually helping?

I’m still at the learning stage, so I’d appreciate hearing different experiences and perspectives.
