When you Google your name, what comes up?
Hello π, my gorgeous friends on the internet, today I will be sharing some tips which I am following to build my personal brand, that I feel can come in handy when building your own personal brand too, this article also contains reasons you should have your personal brand in the first place.
Do you know that your name is the greatest asset that you have? and that turning it into a brand people can trust, can as well help you have a very good relationship with other people and also help build a very successful business.
Before we proceed, let me share with you some things I have been doing wrong in the past that have secretly affected the process of building my personal brand which I wasn't aware of, and how I have made amendments to them.
Below are few things I HAVE BEEN DOING WRONG and how I have corrected them:
1. DIFFERENT PUBLIC NAMES
Honestly, I just realized lately that my Twitter username is totally different from my LinkedIn username and other social media profile, which can make it sometimes difficult for someone trying to reach out, to find me with just a single username.
Correction: After realizing this, I tried as much as possible to make all my usernames and display names similar across all my social media accounts.
I chose unclebigbay for all my social media profiles, because it is not as common as my full name Ayodele Samuel Adebayo, and when people get to know me more as unclebigbay, I can be easily located on the internet. π
Your blog name can also be your brand, you can proceed to search your popular name on Google to see where you fall on the search result.
2. DIFFERENT PROFILE PICTURES
Do you know that 7 out of 10 people who are interested in your content will have your profile picture stuck to their memory, this makes it easier for them to recognize any of your social media accounts, given that you have the sample profile picture across all.
Correct: I took what is called a professional picture, which I will be using for all my social media profiles till my next birthday π. *check out my Hashnode profile *
I guess you already know how hard it gets with 3 social media accounts with 3 different display names and images. I was guilty of that too. Your personal brand picture might just be an artwork or a cat image. π
@Victoria Lo doesn't use her real picture but always stays consistent with the avatar and the cover image across all her social media accounts that I know.
@Syed Fazle Rahman uses his real picture and stays consistent with it across all his social media accounts that I know.
I hope you found that helpful π, now, let's proceed to the benefits of having a personal brand.
1. IT HELPS YOU FIGURE OUT THE "WHY"
The very first thing you would like to pinpoint when you're branding your name is the value you have to offer under that name, this can range from Reliability, Creativity, Honesty or Service to others, this is your passion, what you love so much that drives you so much to do what you do.
This will help you answer the Why you're into what you're doing.
2. IT MAKES YOU STANDS OUT
Creating your personal brand will not only make you figure out your value but will also make you stand out from the pack and as long as you are providing values to others, you will be known specially for your uniqueness.
3. IT HELPS BUILD YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE
The number of people that will trust and follow your brand as you grow will gradually increase as you continue to be consistent with the value that you provide to people through your personal brand, these people will turn your brand into a position of influence since they trust and gain from what you are giving out as value.
you can begin to earn from your brand by advertising products from companies to your audience and many more.
4. SOMEONE IS WATCHING
Having your own personal brand and keeping everything consistent will make people think you're organized and that you know what you are really doing, this will make them keep a close watch on your brand space and before you know it, you have gained your next client's trust without even pitching what you do.
Your brand has done that π
5. IT HELPS ATTRACT OPPORTUNITIES
When you have your own personal brand and you keep the value coming on a consistent basis, you will have a high chance of getting opportunities like:
Recommendations
Project Collaborations
Consultancy
Job Interviews
Invite as a speaker
Mentorships
Sponsorship
Partnership etc.
Depending on what you have to offer.
How can you Get Started?
Now that you are aware of the benefits of having your own personal brand, I have also come up with things you can start with when you are ready to create your own personal brand π.

The benefits of online shopping are becoming more noticeable every day. Not only does it reduce costs (material, physical, moral), but it also saves a lot of time. Out of habit, of course, people go shopping, and it does seem less costly than online shopping, but you just need to be familiar with a system by which it is easy and affordable to order many products. I sell my branded stuff this way and buy it too. Last time, a friend of mine advised me to use ΧΧͺΧ ΧΧͺ ΧΧ€Χ‘Χ; there I ordered myself a great t-shirt with a great print on the back. I've wanted to buy it for a long time, but it was expensive. Finally, there were discounts.
