This is my experience from EuroPython Online Sprint 2020! The Sprint I took reluctantly!
I am from an electronics background. Had a github account from many years. Put a github.io page here. But never took any part of GitHub seriously. Reason..
Github pages frightened me.
They were like a terminal with white background and every word looking like a command!!
Well. I took a part in Kedro sprint. There appeared Lais Carvalho who was kind enough to type 3 paragraph answer for my '2 lines question and a sad smiley'. She directed to this amazing First PR slideshow by Cheuk Ho. Also asking me to complete asap! I was like okay... Now I have to work. I declared Lais as my KNIGHT!!!
Lais and Yetunde(PM of Kedro) guided me in every single step.
I was also given special customized "beginner"-"easy"-"documentation" issues with work with.
All I had to do was delete text inside a square bracket.:)
And then the long wait to get your PR merged to master! Voila!! My first contribution. Yetunde(rightly addressed as Queen by Lais) bestowed upon me contributor role on the Release page. I assured Yetunde that I will be narrating about her whole life..
"Yetudada made me merge my first PR - deleting of text" and this made me a contributor. DELETE YET CONTRIBUTE!!
Thanks Lais and Yetunde for getting me my first open source contribution. Any one needing any basic assistance. Ping me!

How nice?! <3 It was a pleasure to help (maybe push a bit - sorry) to make your first PR!
I remember when Cheuk pushed me to make my first one and it felt so GOOD!
That is the beauty of Open Source! That is the beauty of community work, we help each other because the chain is only as strong as its weakest leak.
Leave no folk behind! :)
It will always be a pleasure to have chats with you about git, Kedro and all else. Next year, I want to make sure we do a pair programming sprint!
Thanks again for all the gratitude <3
👏 Congrats on your first GitHub PR Vijaykumar
Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks Waylon. Hoping to contribute more than what I have received from Open Source.
That is a great attitude to have. Give back to the community that has helped you!
You have no idea how happy this article makes me. Vijay, thank you so much for your contributions to Kedro!
And we wait for you in our next sprint!
That's awesome! I am glad that you went through the git dungeons. Level up!!!!
