I am starting this new project and have selected graphql as one of the languages in my tech stack. However am still not sure what are the benefits over REST.

How is graphql better than REST? Or is it just an alternative?

There are numerous bemefits but one of the best on my opinion is that allows frontend and backend teams to work indepedently by simply agreeing to a commom schema
