A story about myself: My first experiences with a computer (Part 1: pre-stage & OS)

Even though I am a super newbie, I relatively got familiar with computer and cording and web from an early age.

I always regret that I never consider seriously about learning about those when I was younger. Loving all kind of craft was my nature, however, I couldn't think programming is also a kind of craft, back then.

That is the reason I care so much about teaching kids code, especially for girls, in the first place.

I usually don't and really hate regret past. I didn't want there are more girls like me exist.

(I cried too much until right till here, so I will not say more about it.)

  1. Toddler

My dad's favourite repertory: "I had to bought hundreds of keyboards because you used to pee on those."

My dad was and is an electronics engineer. So, circuit boards always bring me a bit of nostalgia for me.

  2. First Operating Systems

    1. First-ever OS: MS-DOS

Even though I'm still not good at Linux, using command-lines were relatively easy for me.

When they talk about problems caused by MS-DOC's legacy, at MS Insider Dev tour's keynote about Windows Terminal, It was a bit tragically funny.

Fatal error 3: Downgrade to MS-DOS to solve this.

    2. First GUI: Mac OS

There was a friend of mine who lived right next door to mine, though out from kindergarten to middle school. His dad was a captain of Antarctica exploration team.

My own dad used MS-DOS until the mid 90s, so my first experience with GUI was via my friend's dad. I'm not sure about the version, but I think it was either 6 or 7. I remember I used to play with a graphic tool on it.

      Screenshot of System Software 6

    3. First Microsoft Windows: 95

I had to double-check this with my dad before bought this sticker for my MacBook, since I wanted to have one I actually used.

My MacBook with windows 50 sticker on it

BTW, Give me a recommendation for a white or metallic MacBook 13" cover that doesn't get dirty like mine, if there are any.

Honestly, I regret a bit that I decided to write this post, since I can't act as if I am an ignorant 18-year old girl any more. I dug up my own grave. This post is genuinely revealing my age.

However, Part 2 preview: My high school ex used to call me

"an elvish girl from VT(Virtual Terminal) village".

LOL

I know my experiences aren't close to standard, by all mean. so I really want to hear others.
Please share your experiences on the comment!

Well, I thought that I already did reveal it more than I meant to. 😊
If what you wanted was my exact birth date, there is no other way rather than became my employer. And I surely will expect an amazing gift on the day.

So, what was your first OS? πŸ˜‰#persistant

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ CHALLENGE... Accepted.... well my first OS was Windows 2000 (which now makes me feel so inferior πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) but eyyy, it had Microsoft paint so what more can anyone reasonably ask from a computerπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Are you sure you meant that you feel inferior, not superior? 😭

Talking about Windows 2000, my dad used to say: "you need to reinstall windows 95, 95 times to use it well"
So when Windows 2000 came out, I saw my dad and asked: "So, now should I reinstall it 2000 times? 😩"
Though its life was too short for that.

I didn't mind MS painter at all, but recently, I heard a kid cursed it. millennials. 🀷

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚I feel like DOS is like totally better than all the older windows stuff that's for sureπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I would really like to meet the one person in the world who still works on such a system (they would most likely be considered a ∞ X Developer).

Darn kids😏, how dare they insult paint, don't they know it was the Adobe creative suite before the Adobe? I mean some would say paint is superior to Photoshop and all the others. I just think it needs better PRπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

"∞ X Developer": 🀣I'm gonna accuse you of an attempt to murder me.
Talking about Photoshop, I should share this with you.

My comment on this:

I'm relieved that I am not the only junior who knows what MS DOS is.

I used the word junior, not newbie, since he is a graduate and at a workforce now.

We couldn't really afford a computer when I was young, but I remember when we finally got dial up internet! πŸ˜† We had it for about a year or 2 before we upgraded.
My first OS was probably Windows XP.

You must have been really excited when you got your first PC.
Hope XP would have lowered your expectations for the next OS.

I sure was! I still use it, 5 years later πŸ˜„ it's a Mac so it was totally different. I still struggle when I have to work with Windows computers πŸ˜‚
