TL;DR: An IP67 RJ45 jack is a sealed female panel-mount socket (母座). Under IEC 60529 the two digits are separate: 6 = dust-tight, 7 = protected against temporary immersion (1 m / 30 min). The rating only holds when the connector is mated and locked, or capped — an open socket is not sealed.
IP65 vs IP67
- IP65 = dust-tight + low-pressure water jets. Sheltered outdoor, wash-down areas.
- IP67 = dust-tight + temporary immersion. Exposed enclosures, pole-mounted IP cameras.
The gotchas
- An unmated, uncapped port is NOT sealed, whatever the datasheet says. Spec sealing caps.
- The 8P8C contacts still follow IEC 60603-7, so a plain RJ45 plug mates electrically but will NOT seal the port. You need the matching waterproof plug or sealed assembly.
- Panel thickness is a real constraint (3-4 mm max). Too thick a wall = gasket never compresses = no seal.
- Waterproof is not surge-proof. Outdoor ports still need coordinated GDT/TVS protection.
- Sealed bodies shed heat poorly — check rated current against your PoE class.
