Wabi 2.0 in One Timeline: From Invite-Only Pivot to Public Launch

I'm the author of Wabi Wiki, an unofficial guide to the Wabi AI assistant — not affiliated with Wabi. I keep a dated log of what actually changed, and this is the short version.

Wabi 2.0 arrived fast. Between late September and mid-October 2026 it went from an invite-only pivot to a free public launch on three platforms — with a new app build almost every week. If you are just getting started, here is the whole story in one timeline.

September 28: the pivot

Wabi began rolling out version 2.0 by invite code. The shift was bigger than a version number: the first Wabi was a tool where you typed a prompt and got a mini-app. Version 2.0 turned it into a proactive personal assistant living inside a messenger, where the agent builds the apps and threads can be shared with other people. The App Store labelled this update version 3.0.0.

October 1–6: the run-up

The invite period moved quickly. Two more app updates shipped in the first week of October, taking iOS to build 3.0.4 by October 5. On October 6 the company announced Android availability — the Play listing, "Wabi: AI Messenger" by Wabi, Inc., is numbered 2.0.0.

October 14–18: Mac joins, builds keep coming

Mac availability was posted on October 14, and the Google Play listing was updated on October 15. On October 18, two days before launch, the iOS build reached 3.0.5. The build train — 3.0.0, 3.0.4, 3.0.5 — was moving weekly.

One thing that still trips people up: 3.0.x is the iOS build number. The product generation is Wabi 2.0. They are two different numbers for two different things.

October 19: public launch

Wabi 2.0 opened to everyone on iOS, Android and Mac — free, with no waitlist — after the invite-only period. Founder Eugenia Kuyda presented it as the realisation of the personal-agent concept she first pitched at TechCrunch Disrupt back in 2014.

The longer backstory

The timeline actually starts a year earlier. On November 5, 2025, Wabi announced a $20 million pre-seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), alongside the first version of the product — the prompt-to-mini-app tool that version 2.0 later grew out of.

Why this matters if you are new

Three practical takeaways. First, Wabi 2.0 is young — the public version is weeks old, so expect frequent updates and the occasional rough edge. Second, check the build number before you follow an old tutorial: a guide written for the invite period may describe the pre-pivot product. Third, the direction is clear: less typing prompts into a tool, more handing jobs to an assistant that builds things and shares them in chats.

I track every milestone with its source in the full updates timeline on Wabi Wiki — an unofficial guide to the Wabi AI assistant, not affiliated with Wabi.
